Milestones

As HalfWits we’ve all celebrated milestones of one kind or another. Many of us remember the first time we ran a full mile without stopping to walk. Others remember the first time they completed a 10K. And still others remember the feeling of reaching a marathon finish line. Some of you are going to complete your very first half-marathon in just a couple of weeks. A lot of effort goes into each of our self-defined running “milestones” and we often determine our status as a “runner” by how many of those milestones we reach or how well we reach them.

But birthdays are different – a birthday milestone is one you reach simply by the grace of God, a chronological measurement of a life. So why do we celebrate them? And why do we take pleasure in honoring friends and family on their special day? I guess it really depends on the person.

In reaching our running milestones – there have been a lot of people who have helped us along the way. I am one of those Abe’s Army/HalfWits graduates who credit Tim’s efforts as the reason I continue to run today. And from the stories I hear on the road, many of you feel the same way. I’ve always said that the power of a group is simply amazing, but groups need leaders with vision and an unselfish commitment to the goals of that group.

Tim Butler is celebrating his 40th birthday – definitely a milestone by some standards in society. It’s an age where we celebrate not only our beginnings, but the opportunities to move forward. It is said that “You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him.” Tim’s leadership has proven this time and time again and I for one am thankful that we can all share in the milestones in life together - whether they be birthdays, other special events, or JUST crossing a finish line..

Happy 40th Birthday, Tim, and we’ll see you on the road.

PS – blame Jan Wilson for this…..

Tim - Happy 40th Birthday!! This is a big milestone. It only gets better!!
Thanks to Mary R. and Jan for the great post and pictures. Everything you have done Tim has made a difference for so many people. You unselfishly put in so many hours to help the running community. We don't think to thank you enough. Wendy - thanks to you too because you play a big part in this as well. May you have many, many more birthdays!!

Who'd have thought it, 40 years old and a fashion icon! These pictures are proof, Tim is bringing back the peter-pan collar! And I thought Wendy was the fashionista of the family. Happy Birthday Tim and thanks for the cupcakes and beer!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TIM!

As you said tonight, "Remember when we were in school, you had to bring your own treats for your birthday?"

Don't ya think it would have been great if we could HAVE brought beer? Mmmmmm!!!! Yummy! Thank you for the treats!! :)

Tim,

You know when you turn 40 it is not a birth'day' celebration. It is a birthweek celebration! Come on out to Office Tavern Sat. night for SRRC social and I will buy you a drink and we will continue the celebration!! Hope ya can make it. Sat. run is an easy one so no excuses.

Kim,
I agree once you past 30, its a god given rule that you get a whole week of celebration. Instead of a birthday, its called an Appreciation Week.

Tim,
Happy b-day...sorry I missed the Tues fun, but you know why I missed it. I owe you a good ole fashion ale once I get going again.

Catch you all soon!

BTW, congrats who all completed the LM course last weekend.

For everyone who missed Tuesday night, you really missed some fun. We sang Happy Birthday to Tim, we drank "cute" beers, and I'm not gonna be the one to tell who jumped up on one of those picnic tables to dance for the birthday boy.

Half Wits? We got ca-raaaaazy on Tim's birthday. Aren't you sad you missed it?

Obviously, I arrived after the dancers left. But I'm guessing you were the maniac maniac on the floor, dancin' like you never danced before.
