Arctic Amble this Saturday!

This Saturday is our annual Arctic Amble...the day we cut back to six miles in our training planning and it also represents six months until Abe's Amble 10k!

Last year we had windchills of -15 on the day of the Arctic Amble...we have already gone through that this year, so mother nature decided to dump a little snow on us instead. My guess is the roads should be nice and slushy on Saturday morning!

We will meet by the Grandstand at the State Fairgrounds at 7:30 am to run the Abe's course. There is plenty of parking available (at least I hope given this snow!) in that area of the fairgrounds.

Join us for the Arctic Amble! It will be great fun.

Here's a link to a map of the Amble course:

Stick around afterwards - cookies and hot chocolate will be available! It's not Panera - but you gotta refuel anyway!

PS - anyone want to help bake cookies? I've got six volunteers already lined up......

So, refresh my memory. With these cut back weekends, should the pace stay the same as if it was any other long run? Or should you pick it up a little bit since you are not going as far?

Can't wait to get back with the group! I haven't been able to work my weekend schedules to include a group run on Sat mornings. As far as I know I should be there for Arctic Abes.

Barry,
I like to call it...
Arctic Fartlek

Jeremy,
Yes, you can keep your pace the same at least for the first 3 miles...if you feel good, then do the last 3 miles a little bit quicker.

That's kind of what I was planning to do, but didn't want to negate the cutback. I've read that a good way to get ready for race pace of a half/full marathon is to put some race pace miles at the end of your long runs. But I wasn't sure if that was a good idea on a cutback week.

Em, Carl: Couple weeks ago [the REAL arctic]you mentioned doing 20 this weekend. Is that still a go, or is it canned?

Let me know.Thanks! steve

(From Emily--- my account would not work! What'd you do to it Kim?)
:)

Hi Anonymous Friend!
Yes it is still a go!!! 20 miles or 3 hours which ever one comes first. (Ugh!!!) Are you joining us? Kim Noonan is coming along as well. We need you Steve! Don't leave Carl alone with us women! He might not come out alive after this long run! :)

We are meeting at 7 AM at Panera West on Saturday. Evil hills will be incorporated per Kim's request. (She's a little insane) :):):):)(Or wait... that would be me!)

PLEASE join us Steve!!! Tim too! :)

Hey Em,
I lost my ability to sign in when they switched google format a couple of months ago. Any other computer would have been fine but not our quirky one. Real pain.

Guess what I thought might be allergies is really a cold. I'm not ready to throw the towel in yet. You guys may have to carry me up the hills though. I figure if I am going to catch a cold, now is better that race day right? It still stinks. See ya bright and early!

Kim, I think that is what happened to me... Hmmmm...

Anyways, Coach Carl had said considering the mileage, we need to play it safe and go flat. I am sure it is the smart way to go. Steve, glad you are joining us. It will be great! :)

Don't worry Kim we will get through this. If the wind is in our face, so be it, but we will pray it is to our back! (BTW Tim, I loved your quote above!) :)

The best part of this group is that regardless if we are all doing different mileage, we are all in this spiritually together and we don't leave anyone behind. We share eachothers pain and emotionally if not physically cross the finish line together. :)

Cyas in the AM,
Emily :)
