Yeah, ice is the one thing we didn't have to deal with as Half Wits last year. Snow? No problem. Rain? Who cares. Ice? No way.

Ok, Pam & I ran at 7:30! Did 10.5mi. Russ, Chuck, Barry, where were you 'puppies'?(As Pam would say.) The roads were fine. Sorry we missed you. Russ, you made it difficult for me to run in the middle. Pam & I had to both comprimise pace. It was fun. Hopefully next Sat. you'll join us. Have a nice weekend.

Barry House said...

Well, this 'puppy' was curled up nice and snug in his 'crate' and didn't wanna come out.

Seriously, this weather has me all depressed. I was tired and sluggish all day. Anybody got advice for snapping out of weather-induced blues?

Pamela said...

Yes, I have advice Barry, just get out there and run. This weather is nothing compared to the weather we ran in last year. It has been great out. I don't think we have ran in weather that has been under freezing yet this year. When you know you will be meeting people to run with, then you have to show up and run. Afterwards, you will feel good that did.

Kim and I ran today and it was great out. It was so pretty with all the trees iced over and the streets were just wet. We missed the rest of you guys but we'll see ya next week.

Well, I didn't have power for several hours, so we ended up sleeping in. Our power came on just long enough for us to have coffee and pancakes for breakfast before it went off again for a couple more hours. As I was drinking my coffee I thought for sure that the roads would be iced over just looking at the trees and all the grass in my yard. But I later realized that my driveway and all the sidewalks were ice-free. I agree that the conditions were perfect, you just had to look past all the ice covering everything else and check the ground. I guess I should have gone out today, but I'll get one in tomorrow someway. Assuming that the roads don't stay iced.

Chazter said...

Kim and Pam,
No great excuse. I just assumed seeing ice covered grass and down branches around my block that nobody would show up. I should get you guys phone numbers next time. I went to the Club and did the a short workout instead.

You guys rock!!! The guys were wimps this weekend...at least I was.

I live further weat than you guys. we had a half inch of solid ice on the streets. I foolishly tried to run, fell 3 times, hurt my hip and back, and will be out of commision for awhile. Ice on roads is dangerous, I learned my lesson the hard way.

Pamela said...

Mr or Ms Anonymous, I wouldn't have ran in a half inch of solid ice. After one fall, you should have turned around and went home. Hope you are O.K.

Chuck and Jeremy, you guys are real easy to give a guilt trip to. Don't be so hard on yourselves, there is always tomorrow. If my power was out, I would have stayed in my P.J.s and wouldn't have thought twice about not running.

We run almost every Sat. at 7:30 from Panera so who ever shows up shows up, we won't hunt you down. We just have fun making you feel guilty when you don't show up, lol.

Hope to see you guys next week. :)

Wow, talk about your dose of tough love. Or maybe just a dose of tough! :)

Either way, I dragged my butt off the couch and onto the streets of Chatham for 7 miles. I'm still bummin' about all these gray skies.

See ya!

Anne B said...

Pam and Kim - you ladies are tough! I assumed it would be icy as well. Our porch steps were iced over so I decided to hit the gym for some mindless treadmill and cycling. The cable was out, so there was no tv. The ipod at least made it bearable.

Wow, Pam & I were really only joking about not showing up. In fact, my alarm went off at 6:15 and I looked outside and said no way in hell are we running in this. Rolled over to go back to bed but my 3 year old was ready to start his day so I got up at 7am called Pam for confirmation that we were not running. She said roads are fine and to be there at 7:30am! I scarfed down a bagel and a cup of coffee and ran out the door. When I got there, only her car was in the parking lot. Not a good sign. Actually I was glad I called because the roads really were fine. Chuck, instead of calling houses (in case spouses and kids are asleep) we should exchange cell numbers and have the phone bed side. This would take the guess work out. Next week will start a cell list. Take care.

Jeremy said...

Pam, I can take the guilt. Go ahead and give it out. I ended up running Sunday, but because of family responsibilities I had to do my 6.5 (that was all I could force myself to do) in the basement on the treadmill. I wish I could say I'll be there next week, but my son has the Pinewood derby and I think the Tiger scouts start first in the morning.

Hey, I was just thinking. When is Miles and Margaritas happening again? That was kind of fun, and I only stayed for an hour or two.

Pamela said...

We were thinking of doing it on Feb 1st. The Half wits run is at 5:30 in Washington Park so after that we can all meet at Xoch.

Greg C said...

Looking forward to joining the half-wits...First timer for the half!!!...Really glad there is an 11:30 pace group too.

Chazter said...

Pam,
I can only drink one margarita! I have to watch my girl-ish figure. But of course they do have a 48 oz glass, right?

Anne B said...

Greg - Some of us in the 11:30-12:00 range are running from Panera this weekend at 8:00. Both Saturday and Sunday, you're welcome to join us!

Pam, can we re-schedule the thurs (1st)margaritas? I didn't know the date when I suggested it, but that is the day of my birthday and I am going out to dinner with my family. What if we did it Tues. the 30th? Let me know. I will see ya all tomorrow. And Chuck, you'll have to wish me happy 35th birthday when we go out.(Hee Hee)

Pamela said...

Hey, what about making it on Feb. 9th? Xoch has half price margaritas on Thursdays, not on Tuesdays.

Happy 35th Kim, I thought we were around the same age, guess not. I'll be turning 37 this year so I guess we are only two years apart.

Anonymous said...

Following Thurs. sounds good. Hope your feeling better. 37 huh?

Pamela said...

Ended up being an ear infection and I thought I was feeling bad because of the Tombstone pizza. That was probably part of it also. Kim, guess you were right about me getting sick. My body was telling me something but I wasn't listening. Did you have fun at the party?

I did perk up though, watching the Bears game today. Got to love it baby! Go Bears go, Go Bears go, hey Chicago, what do you say? Bears are going to win today!!!! Whoo, Whooo I'm going to the Superbowl baby!

I don't know if any of you noticed, but the front page of todays paper has an article about a long time Chatham teacher named Clark Blade. Here's the online article. His students are putting together a bike/walk/run event to raise money. Clark Blade says he'll start a fund to help other teachers with health problems. The event is this Saturday at 2pm at the Chatham High School. I haven't gotten many details yet, maybe some of you know them. I suspect it won't be a long event but its supposed to be on the InterUrban trail unless bad weather, then in the fieldhouse.

Somebody posted this on the paper's website:
To class of 89 grad wrote at 1/23/2007 11:08:53 AM

The bike-a-thon/run is this Saturday starting at the high school at 2:00 planned along the interurban trail. Shirts are $5, food provided through donations, contact GHS for information about getting any sposors/donations.

I'm going to try to be there since I had Mr. Blade for high school english/speech.

Pamela said...

Yes, my daughter has him and she plans to help out at the event. She said he is a really good teacher and everyone likes him. The kids are really supporting him at school, I'm glad my daughter is.

Are you guys running longer than the 6 miles for the Half Wit Program? Are you following any particuliar Half training program? I plan on running Sat., sounds like the weather may be a little snowy and cold. What the heck, it's January!

Snowy & cold is ok - freezing rain will be another story. Keep your fingers crossed. We have been so lucky on our longer runs.
