We're Always Training For Something!

Chicago Marathon slideshow photos are now available online at the SRRC Photo Gallery. You can even order pictures to be picked up from Meiers or CVS. Go to http://www.kodakgallery.com/srrc to see them! There is also a link from the SRRC site, as well. I also have a Photo Album created in PowerPoint that I can put on a CD for anyone who wants one as well. Hard to believe the marathon was just three weeks ago - seems like such long time ago!

It was cool to be back with the group today as we train for the Frostbite 10 Miler/2Miler. I thought the marathon would be the end of my training for the year, but realized how much I missed being part of the group and having a goal in mind. Today was my first time running this course and didn't realize there were hills like that in Central Illinois - I couldn't have gotten through it without people to talk to (imagine that) all along the way. I did a short run while in Vegas - running down the Strip is definitely a great experience, but it was in no way as much fun as running with a bunch of HalfWits! It was just a "run" and a way to burn off buffet calories!

So I guess I'll keep showing up on Saturdays - 'cause it was never about the running anyway....

Mary

Jingle Bell 5K this Saturday, November 18, at 10:00 a.m. for those ready to race for a really good cause. The Saturday Social is that evening as well, at Indigos. Frostbite Festival 10 Miler/2 Miler is December 3 at 9:00 a.m. Check Foot Trails for an application for either of these races or the SRRC website.

I'm not doing that course twice. Have fun you Frostbite 10 milers. I'm a wimp, I'm going to do the 2 miler but I will cheer everyone on that runs the 10. That hill at about 8 miles killed me. Barry, I can't believe you ran that course last week and came back for more. You go Barry! Mary, you did awesome!

I'm in Chicago next weekend so I'll see everyone the week after. Family is coming to town the next weekend after that so maybe I can get my brother to run with us on the Sat. after Thanksgiving. We'll have to run off our turkey dinner. We should have a turkey trot in Springfield and give away a turkey to the winner.

Thanks Pam - I think Troy FINALLY realizes why I do this. He really enjoyed running with us this morning! He can't run with us normally on Saturdays, so knowing that he wanted to run the course today kept me from rolling over and going back to bed!

If it wasn't for Barry and Pam and Steve and the rest of you - I would have turned around at like, mile 1.57!!! Always up for a challenge, though it was tough - jeez! Pam - you've done two marathons and you're not doing the ten miler? Well, running it with your son is a good reason, I suppose!

Maybe we need to start an "informal" turkey trot? Maybe an Abe's Turkey Trot? Sounds like a plan - your in charge! Anyone else up for something like that?

Good job to everyone for running the Frostbite course. I had intended to run it this weekend but got a wild hair, and I have signed up to run the half marathon in Vegas in December. I have yet to run Frostbite!
You're right Mary, Vegas is not as fun by yourself running. I have ran it several times at 6:00 a.m. and I run into drunks ending their nights. They usually have some crude remarks.
The Vegas marathon/half will be starting off with fireworks and The Blue Man Group to begin the race. True Vegas style! I understand there is a run through marriage chapel for anyone wishing to get married during their race. I'm sure we'll see many Elvis' running around as well.
I'll be out of town Thanksgiving weekend, but the Turkey Trot sounds like a good idea. I think there is usually a group that meets at Washington Park on Thanksgiving morning for a run, if anyone is looking for a run before dinner.

Vegas half marathon? Whew - you go, girl. That's awesome! I can't wait to hear all about it. I am so impressed!
Maybe you can take a camera along the way with you - sounds like a real running experience, for sure! Where are you staying? The Sahara has a great pool and hot tub (the rest of it sucks, but the pool was incredible!).

GROUP RUN OPPORTUNITY:
Tuesday November 14th 5:30 p.m. from Panera West to Fit Club and Back. Six miles-ish? Wear your blinky lights. The subdivisions should be well lit, but those crazy state workers are so anxious to get back home! Please post a comment if you plan to come. So far it's me and Jeanne, but if she can't come and no one lets me know they're coming, I'll run my usual route at home.

I really like the idea of Abe's Turkey Trot--perfect final tune-up for the non-wimps who are going to run the Frostbite 10 mile AND a nice Saturday run for the wimps who aren't running the full distance!

Just tell me what time to meet you at the grandstand, Mary!

Are you talking about me Barry? After the compliments I gave you about running the frostbite two weekends in a row, this is how I'm repaid? I see what I'm dealing with now. Are you trying to shame me into running the 10 mile so I can be in the same amount of pain as you? I know misery loves company. I would join you but my little baby boy is running the two mile and I want to make sure he makes it through. I'm going to run along side of him so he doesn't go out too fast. I really wish that I could have been with all of you 10 milers but I have a duty to uphold. I will cheer you guys on, up that big hill at the end. Glad I can be there for you guys.

Mary, I would join you for a run on Tuesday night but I have to drop off Maddie at gym at 5:30 so I'm just going to run in the park. Maybe about 6 miles.

If my family leaves by Friday night, I would love to run Abe's turkey trot (Maybe Barry can be our mascot, big turkey!, I owed you one Barry) Like I said before, maybe I can get my brother out there so I won't feel so guilty, leaving the rest of the family at home. Where there's a will, there is a way!

You mean we can't have Barry as our mascot?

Mary L. Rogers said...

can't be there - whirlwind trip to see my sis in Detroit (Wednesday through Friday) - what about the rest of you turkeys?

Easy does it Kim, you want to be doing this for a long time to come. Hang in there girl - there's lots of miles (oh, and margaritas) left to run!

Pam--yes, it was directed at you. ALL of it was directed at you. BWA-hahahahahahahaha!!!!!

Hey, you called yourself a wimp and I simply took it and ran off with it. For 10 miles . . . over hills . . .

BTW, I have no problem being the Abe's Turkey Trot mascot. But I ain't wearin' no turkey suit.

And I gotta check this web site more often.

Alright Barry, you shamed me in to it. Have the oxygen tanks there for me at the finish line. Depending on how I feel that day, I may just turn around at the 1 mile with the smart people :).

Barry House said...

Pam, now you've confused me--what did I shame you into? And after running multiple marathons, what do YOU need to prove to anybody?

Especially me with my 12-minute-per-mile pace . . .

So we'll see you at the Grandstand on Nov 25 and you should feel free to run whatever distance you want on Dec 3!

Barry House said...

Mary, I was so far behind you on the FB course that I couldn't SEE my favorite view!!

And remember, smoking twinkies is better than eating them . . . .

Hey, I know you are all thinking about Frostbite and everything and some of you are still coming off a marathon, but I'll be out at LLCC this Saturday morning early to get in 12 before the Jingle bell run. I'll be in the parking lot at 6:30 am and will be running an undetermined route at about 10:00 - 10:30 min pace. Maybe the 5K isn't challenging enough for you and you need to get in 12 before hand, or you don't really want to run the race like me. In any case, I'll be there and will be hanging out during the race (not running) with my son's Tiger Cub Scout den. Maybe I'll see some of you then even if you don't want to kill yourself before the race.

Barry, I was just giving you a hard time. I'm kidding about the "shame". Boy, can't believe you would take me serious. Ask poor Mary about the abuse Russ and I would give her during marathon training, lol.

I changed my mind to run the 10 miler because I really think it's a good workout. I won't be saying that during the race but I can say that now. Also, this will be the first 10 mile race that I've ever been in. I'm not going to practice any part of the course anymore because I will probably change my mind again and run the 2 mile, lol.

Jeremy, hope you find someone to run 12 with you before the jingle bell run. I will be in Chicago so I won't be able to but it sounds like a good plan. Good Luck to everyone that is running jingle bell, should be a lot of fun.

That which does not kill you - makes you stronger, whether its tough training, a tough course, or the abuse of your friends!

I'm not running Jingle Bell (family obligations) so I won't be down in Springfield. I'll plan on doing my 8-10 here in Lincoln - but it just won't be the same.

I've decided to just focus on Frostbite and then be done for a while until HalfWits starts up again. But I will plan on doing the Abe's Course on November 25th at 8:00 a.m. if anyone is interested...

Barry House said...

I will definitely be there for the Abe's Amble course on Nov 25! My foot should be all good by then.

And I've GOTTA start putting emoticons into these posts so Pam knows I'm teasing. Assuming I was teasing back there . . .

LOL!

Hey Kim,
You rock for being out there too. This was my first race since Steamboat in Peoria back in June. I am beginning to hate running at a faster pace pace i.e. sprint mode.

I'm with you...this old man likes longer distances better. I think Ill be doing the Frostbite, but I haven't ran a long distance run for over a 5 weeks now. Im beginning to worry.

Hey, is anyone running in Washington Park tuesday night? My son is home and we thought we might run out there if anyone else is running.

Kim,
You are so kind saying "Natural Ability", I never heard that before with the exception of opening up a bottle/can of beer.

Im still debating the Frosty 10 but we will see as the day nears. Im still reeling from the Sat run. My legs are still shot...what wrong with me?
