Abe's Turkey Trot

If you've got nothing else planned for Saturday morning, join some of your buddies for the First Annual Abe's Turkey Trot. We'll meet at the Grandstand on the Illinois State Fairgrounds at 8 am and run the Abe's Amble course.

For everyone training for the Frostbite Festival, it's a nice shorter distance with some hills. For everyone else, it's another time around your favorite 10k route.

And in case you're wondering, it was Mary Rogers who came up with the name. We'll say nice things about her as we run Saturday!

That sounds like fun. We're not supposed to dress up as pilgrims or indians or anything, I hope?

You can if you want. And we'll say nice things about you too.

We'll say really nice things about everyone who shows up. For the record, I'm wearing whatever running apparel seems appropriate for the weather that morning.

Hey--maybe we could all yell "gobble gobble" the whole way?

Maybe someone has one of those turkey caller things that hunters use? Might be easier than trying to shout "gobble gobble" for 10k.

Wendy and I will be on our way to Key West on Saturday. Have fun...turkeys!!

It's a duck call. My husband has one for hunting. I'll bring it so our mascot can use it. We'll be right behind you Barry!

Have fun in Key West Tim and Wendy. Kim, the same to you for Chicago. Maybe you can run part of the Chicago course when you are up there.

Is anyone going to run in Washington Park on Thursday morning? I would like to run 4 miles at 8:00 a.m. Kim are you still in?

Plan ahead! If any of you are interested in running the Indy 1/2 marathon, here's what I received via email today:

Starting December 1, the registration price for the 31st running of the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon will increase to $65 if the field has not been filled by that date. The Mini-Marathon is scheduled for May 5, 2007. The current field for the 2007 OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon is 94% full and registration is OPEN. Are you registered?

Good luck to Jeremy Peck who will run the Memphis Marathon on December 2nd and to Mary Fairclough and Rick Niebur as they run the Las Vegas 1/2 and Full Marathon December 10th. While the rest of us are stuffing ourselves full of turkey and other good foods - these folks are still in full training mode! Good luck and let us know how it all goes!

Have a great trip Tim and Wendy - if you've never been there, check out the little beach/bar restuarant at the very end of the city - just a block over from the most southern point in the US - pretty cool little place!

Wish I could run with you guys on Saturday - gobble gobble all the way!

Mary

Well, how was the trot?

The trot was great. Weather was wonderful. One caveat for anyone thinking of running that course...the bathrooms at the Fairgrounds are drained and padlocked for the winter! Barry was encouraging hiding behind the sheep barn, but fortunately, the Coliseum was open.

Karen Price and I found a wallet on Third Street loaded with cash and credit cards...good thing runners are honest people.
