Ready to begin?

The 2006 version of the Half Wits training program is ready to begin this Saturday, January 28. I tried this blog stuff for a while last year, but I thought we would try it again. It is a great way for fellow Half Wits to be in touch with each other and to comment on anything they want to discuss. Hopefully, with people being more familiar with blogs this year, folks will post more this year.

If you want to see this Saturday's 6 mile route, please visit the USA Track and Field's America's Running Routes webpage for the route...

Let me know your thoughts!

This will be my first year for the Half Wits program and my first half marathon. Hopefully I won't be the only newbie!

I would guess there will be several "newbies". One of my favorite things from last year was that we had several people who ran the longest run of their lives every week...they had never run over 6 miles before they started. You will do great!

Ron:

I have no doubt you can do it.

I realize the jump up to a half marathon from six miles seems a little steep, but, as you saw with the Army, the group dynamic really helps with that. No one says you won't be pooped after the long runs, but the key is you got through them. Actually, you might be amazed how far you can run and how well you feel afterwards.

Just stick with the program, make sure you do the long runs as well as a few runs during the week, and you will run 13.1 no problem!

Looking forward to the challenge. As another "newbie", Abe's Army was my first running challenging in a loooong time. I've kept it up through the fall and winter. Hopefully they'll be a few people who run in the 11 minute pace category to keep me company!

This is what I like about the blog...people can share their thoughts, experiences, etc...

I am sure many of the "newbies" might think they will be the only ones out there, but as you can see we will have many people who will be training for their first half marathon, just as we did last year. I have the feeling we are going to have a big Half Wits group this year.

Don't worry about finding someone at your pace. It always seems to work out fine.

All of you will do great!
