Some more info on the USA Track & Field route mapping feature...
This is very cool! I should have been using this sooner. It is a very easy to use feature to track your routes and save and or print them.
My plan is to use this to map Half Wits and other Springfield routes (race courses, etc...).
I have saved three maps so far: 1. the "short" route from Panera to Fit Club West, 2. the Wabash Trail route (Panera to Interurban Trail and back via Wabash Trail), and 3. the Lincoln Memorial Classic 1/2 Marathon course.
All of these course have been saved with "Half Wits" at the beginning of the description so you can easily find them. The mileage on the maps might not be quite correct, but it is in the ballpark
To find these maps, visit the USATF America's Running Routes webpage at http://www.usatf.org/routes/ Click on "search the database" on the left side of the page and search for Springfield, Illinois.
Let me know what you think and if you add any routes. It is a great running tool!

I've seriously neglected this blog for no reason other than I haven't made
the time to sit down and compose something. Which is kind of sad because

You are right, these maps are cool. I like the hybrid view that mixes the map & satellite views. Thanks for taking the time to create these maps. We will see you on Saturday.
If you try to map out running routes in other towns, like Chatham for example, the map of the town is not current. At least it wasn't a month ago when I went to the USATF site anyway. So if you live in a town that has undergone a considerable amount of new construction in the last few years the sub-division you live in and the road you live on may not be on the map.

Yep...that's true. I noticed for the Springfield maps that neither the Wabash nor Interurban trails are on there, as well as the Stanford Ave. extension, Wabash-MacArthur intersection are not up dated.
The gentleman who came up with the program to use google maps as a running pedometer has an explanation on his website as to why the maps are not current.

If the link doesn't work just type in the gmap pedometer part and click on FAQ's and there will be a subject heading that says old/wrong maps.
