This Saturday, there are several groups running the Frostbite Course. I looked on the USTAF site and there is a link to the route http://www.usatf.org/routes/view.asp?rID=65416.
There will be a group leaving Fit Club West at 7:30 a.m. to run the full route and another group leaving at 8:00 a.m. to run 7 miles of the route (just to get a little taste of those hills). I'm going to see if Jan Wilson will set some water out for us (she lives at mile 4 of the route, I think).
Bagels and coffee at Panera afterwards, of course!
Post any additional run information here or if there are other groups running different times and/or different routes, post them here as well.
If I can get my rear end out of bed this time, I'll see you at the Fit Club!

"You have to wonder at times what you're doing out there. Over the years, I've given myself a thousand reasons to keep running, but it always comes back to where it started. It comes down to self-satisfaction and a sense of achievement." - Steve Prefontaine
PS - has anyone tried out the online running log at www.coolrunning.com? Pretty cool - I'm using it and it tracks all my cross training as well, and even track the miles on my shoes!
2012 Recap

I've seriously neglected this blog for no reason other than I haven't made
the time to sit down and compose something. Which is kind of sad because

I have used the log to track my shoe miles, but I'm not consistent with it. So I use my handwritten log to record the info about my shoes.
I won't be able to run Saturday morning, but possibly Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning. Are the dogs really that bad that I should bring mace?? I have never had to worry about dogs on my runs before. Where do I buy mace at??
They're really not that bad, Mary. I ran Pec Road a lot over the summer; the dogs will come out and bark and some of them like to sniff. If you just stop and talk to them, they will be fine. Mostly they are just curious. I did have problems with a boxer one time; no one seemed to know who he belonged to, and I have not seen that dog since, so it was probably a fluke.
If anything, carry a couple of Milkbones!
Anne
Im so jealous of you all...I have this Team In Training schedule and I can never hardly join these long runs with you guys. But I will try to be there for the social hour after the run.
See ya with bagel in hand.
Just a thought about the dogs on the Frostbite 10-mile course. Keep in mind that I personally love dogs.
The dogs I saw the one time I ran the course all had collars and were simply guarding their yards. So when they saw people running near their property, they barked.
Bark back. Wave your arms, yell, tell the doggies to go home. And yeah, throw dog treats if you're carrying them (if you mess up and throw your Gu, you will have to eat the dog treats yourself).
Please don't mace these dogs. The ones I saw were obviously living in a developed area, have collars, and appeared to be well cared for. When we yelled at them, they retreated to their yards and kept quiet.
Save the mace for wild animals or fellow runners who try to steal your Gu.
Great Barry - I will carry milkbones next to my GU.
And Chuck - let me know what your TNT schedule is - maybe we can do a group thing with them? That would be kinda cool, I think. We enjoyed having Christina join us in the marathon training group - she fit right in!
Now, I gotta plane to catch!
Barry, as I recall it was YOU that barked at the dogs.:) Your "bark" was bigger than theirs. They were afraid of you! :):):)
If it wasn't for Barry, AKA "The Dog Whisperer", Jeanne and I (the amateurs of DOGS 101), would have got bit. Don't get me wrong. It was only because of the fact we were scared.
When you run with Barry, you learn a lot from well as I said before, "The Dog Whisperer". Barry and Anne are right though. If you act normal and brave, they will not hurt you. They are family owned animals that are only protecting their area/property. It's only a natural instict for them to run out towards you when they see a group of people running. Now if you would have asked me for my advise before this run that took place 2 weeks ago, or even the past 3 years of running the course, I would have said, "yes, use the mace". :( But only because I am just a scardy cat when it comes to barking dogs. I would be the one victim that would get eaten alive from the Chihuahua or the toy poodle.
But apparently whatever Barry did during that run, it worked... The group that followed after us, asked Tonya and I what we did to the dogs when it was their turn to run by them. I guess the dogs just sat there, waggin their tails. I just told them, "Oh, Barry" and all was understood.
What sound does that man on "The Dog Whisperer" show say?
"Whisp~~~! Whisp~~~~~!" As he waves his hands towards the dog. Although this man is hispanic and looks nothing like Barry, I seriously think Barry and him met in another lifetime! Hmmmmm... it's kind of scary, ya know?
Regardless, Dog bones, shmog bones... just throw Barry! HA HA HA HA!!!
PS:WIN BIG MARY!!! :)
I love dogs, so it sounds like we'll get along. I bring along the treats with my gu.
Thanks!
Don't forget some treats for the farm cats too!!!!!
I checked out the coolrunning log. It looks pretty neat and Its got some good features. If it could import Garmin data I think it would be just about perfect. I'm not sure if you can get an export of the data from the runtracker from runners world. But the cool running thing doesn't show splits and maps.
I woulda thrown Emily at the dogs but they were already sufficiently frightened.
Treats for farm cats? Anne, that's spelled M-A-C-E. LOL! Or maybe M-I-C-E . . .
Mace a defenseless little kitty cat???? The unspeakable horror!!!!
They were frighten as I just rolled out of bed that AM... :)
Water Stop for Saturday Frostbite Runs - Since some of us aren't running all the way to Jan's house, there will be a water jug and cups just past the intersection of Washington and Bradfordton Road -- look for the yellow thermos in the driveway of the first house west of Bradfordton Road on Washington Street (south side of Washington). It's a two-story light green house (sorry, don't know the address).
