Train Tickets and T-Shirts

1. Is anyone interested in taking the train from Springfield to Chicago on Saturday morning, October 21st? Tickets to Chicago are $23 and tickets back on Monday are $17. I think that beats parking and fighting traffic and fueling up. That's the full fare - state employees can get a discount by getting their tickets at the station in Springfield - and I'll pick up the train here in Lincoln. Here's the schedule from Springfield:

Saturday a.m. 6:30 - 9:55 a.m. 300 Statehouse Train. $23 (Note, the later train 10:29 a.m. is only $17, but I'm thinking I want to get up there early)

Monday p.m. 3:20 - 6:49 p.m. 321 Texas Eagle $17 (Note, the earlier train leaves at 8:15 a.m., but is the same price, and I don't know about all of you - but I plan on sleeping in on Monday and maybe taking in some Michigan Avenue shopping and having a good breakfast Monday morning - anyone been to Filene's Basement or the West Egg?!) And, someone asked about reservations for dinner on Saturday night - highly suggested. We had a real problem in Indy and ended up at the Steak and Shake! There's several of us that have reservations at Bucca Di Peppas (sp?) - you should check into that for the best Italian food around!

If we try to order our Amtrak tickets together we can sit together on the train - or at the very least, hang out in the dining car together. What do you all think?

Also, my family is only staying Saturday night - I am offering my hotel room for anyone else who wants to bunk in with me on Sunday. We can share the costs and that way you only need a hotel for Saturday night. Just let me know. I'm staying at Hotel 71.

2. TShirts - anyone live near or work near or have family in Petersburg? OUR TSHIRTS ARE READY FOR PICKUP! WHOOHOOO!

I have heard alot of good things about the Bucca Di Beppo. Ladies at the office went and they ate dinner in the "Kitchen" area with a large group and had a great time.

Hope to see you and Robin at Lost Bridge on Wednesday by 4:00, if things go ok here at the office.

FYI...I have taken the train for may last Chicago Marathon a few years back and I would do it again. The ride wasnt bad at all and you can stretch your legs out the day after. Sure beats sitting in a car cramped up for hours.

But, purchase your tickets ASAP. I procrastinated about 2 weeks out and space became scarce and the price doubled. With it being a weekend train, expect it to fill up quickly. Also, with the train originating from Texas, call ahead for the time of arrival. That train never seems to be on time...but of course it could be my luck.

You guys are so close!!! Keep on rockin!!!

I just wanted to say to Kim, Jen, and anyone else suffering an injury right now, please take care of yourself, even if it means a setback in your training.

I second Anne's comments. I have been there and done that. You have to look at the long term and how it will effect you physically.
Kim - If it doesn't work out, put your site on another marathon to train for when you complete your rehab. If they have you doing pool running during your rehab, this will keep you in really good shape. I know we are all living in fear everytime we have a pain/ache. I'm saying a pray!!

Kim, I'm so sorry to hear your news. I don't even know what to say. I know you are feeling horrible right now, and I can't come up with anything that is guaranteed to make you feel better and would probably only make you feel worse. I know you will be back, though. This is not an end, only a speed bump. We will run the next one together. I'm sure of it!

Saw my doc yesterday. Got some x-rays. They were able to see evidence of my old injury (hmmm) but that's it. Can't slip nothing past them. Got a referral, though. I see Doc Western Friday morning, x-rays in hand. I'll tell him you said hi, Kim. (Does he give stickers and suckers if you're good?)

I ran my 9 this morning and I feel ok, but I'm medicated to the maximum allowed by the AMA. (Im a poet and didn't know it!!)

Hey, try the NEW strawberry/banana flavored GU!! It's fabulous!

PS, Kim, you might want to specify HUMAN tibia. Just in case someone trys to pawn a....wait a minute, you could be like the six million dollar woman!! STRONGER, BETTER, FASTER THAN BEFORE!! NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NA. (this is the sound they made when jumping over fences in slo-mo)

Kim - Sorry to hear the news. Mine didn't go into a break, stress fracture of the tibia. If I had continued to run on it, it would have turn into a break. They had me pool running and biking. For some reason they didn't want me doing the ellitipical. I really missed that since it's so close to running, but it may have something to do with the length of the fracture??

The Napa Valley Marathon would be a great run, beautiful scenery. What month is that?

Jenni - Good luck on Friday! Tell Dr. Western I said hi! Make sure you tell him we are all part of the Half Wits. I'm sure he'll agree! This must be his busiest time of the year.

Dr. Western is awesome. He treated me for when I was injured for Indy 1/2. He is associated with AthletiCare/Springfield Clinic as their Sports Med doc.

He will also give you every options to keep going... unless if it is to a point you can not. He is through and very honest. Very nice guy! He had me do physical therapy before and after I did Indy. He even video taped my running gait to see if there were any problems with my hip alignments to my knees down to my shins/ankles. It was so cool!

He has also treated my husband with a broken toe during Abe's. He was great to him as well. Although he did say not to do Abe's and Muddy Buddy, he knew he wanted to still do it. Regardless, he gave him precautions and wished him well.

If anyone goes to him, he will do a GREAT job with you! I work with his sister, Mindy. She is a nurse practitioner for Dr. Morton. So if he is your doctor, Mindy can tell you all about her bro! :)

Napa Marathon sounds very tempting!! I better see how the old body does with this training!

Hey guys,

I'll run with you guys when you train for Napa. I'm not going over 15 miles though. When you get the training schedule give me a copy so I can see when it's 15 miles or less. As of September 30th, I don't want to ever run another 20 miler again, except for the marathon on Oct. 22nd.

You guys rest up so you will go into your training strong. I'm thinking of you guys and hope for the best.

Is there a marathon in Wisconsin next year? Maybe some people can run a half and you guys can run a full. I'll be able to cheer you guys on then. I know you guys are friends but I can't afford to go to Napa to cheer you guys on, lol.

Kim, I go in at 9:45am tomorrow. When is your's? Did he suggest that ultrasound therapy for you yet? That sounds neat. And I have always wanted to have my running gait analyzed, I wonder if he will do that for me, too??

Mary F. said...

Dr. Western analyzed my running gait last fall when I was having what turned out to be IT problems. He could see me throwing my hip really out far. From that point we worked on strengthing my hip flexors. It's pretty cool!

Jen said...

That is WAY COOL! I hope he does that for me.

Jen said...

OK, see you there.

I'm going Kim! Somewhere around 6:00. How was your appointment? Hopefully, promising?

Chazter said...

Ill be there with other friendly faces too. The srrc website says it starts at 7pm. Should be a fun time. I'll pass some cigerettes for everyone to celebrate the night...oh wait...no smoking...darn.

Hey Chuck, are you saying I can't go at 6:00 or something? lol. When Pam gets there, the party is starting baby!
