Half Wits 2009 to being Saturday, January 31!!

The Half Wits training program for the 2009 Lincoln Memorial Half Marathon will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 31.

In a change from previous years, will be base the program from Cafe Moxo on Adams Street between 4th & 5th streets in downtown Springfield!

Running from Cafe Moxo will allow us to incorporate the actual Lincoln Memorial course during our training runs. Moxo also is a runner friendly restaurant with wonderful food so you can refuel after our training runs!

The Half Wits is a nine-week program which will get you ready for the LM by race day. We meet on Saturdays for long runs and Tuesday & Thursdays for shorter runs and hill or speed workouts. This is not a program for beginners! Our first long run will be 6+ miles, so you must have a good running base to be in this program.

Don't worry about your pace, we have plenty of people with paces running the gamut, but just make sure you are ready to tackle 6 miles on January 31!

Check the Half Wits Blog for more info as we get closer to Jan. 31!!

Great news, Tim!

I'm pumped. This will be my third time as a Half-Wit. I can hardly wait.

Love the change to Cafe Moxo! One can only run the west end routes so many times. Maybe for the last run, we can celebrate with one of those giant cupcakes!

Cool - LOTS of people have been asking - WHEN DOES HALF WITS START!

And I like the new location!

Can't wait for Half wits to start again. I second Holly's comment. I need a change from the west end routes. Cafe Moxo, great choice. I had the oatmeal for the first time last week. OMG!!

I'm new to SRRC, and I've never run with a group before. I'm a little nervous, but anxious to make new friends. Thanks to whoever organizes these group runs. I look forward to them!

Pam, Don't buy your years supply of cookies at Cafe Moxo, unless you bring your Big Visa card.

Can someone post what time the Tuesday and Thursday runs will be? Thank you

The Tuesday/Thursday runs will most likely be 5:30 pm from Washington Park shelter. Not for sure about that, as I will not be there for most of those and other folks will be leading, but that is probably the plan.

Thanks!

Thank you Tim for once again taking the time to organize this. We all REALLY appreciate you taking the time to organize this training run. I am sure if you can't be there others will step in. It is just nice to have a running plan and a group to run with. Helps with the motivation which we all need with this freezing weather.

PS. When is the SRRC site going to be up again?

^^^^ Hi Kim - For a number of reasons I won't go into, we're having incredible problems with getting the srrc domain transferred to the new ISP. In the interim, please use www.sprrc.net!

What mile-per-minute times constitute the slower and faster ends of "paces running the gamut?"

Anne B said...

I run between 11:30 and 12 minute pace. There are people running 8 minute miles and pretty much everything in betwee.

Much of it also depends on who shows up, but there usually are folks anywhere from sub 7 milers to those who run/walk. Thanks for your interest!

AHhhh...I won't be there on Saturday (31st) but I'll be running a 4 mile cave trail in it's place. Can someone please update me for Tuesday Thursday runs, I'll be able to make those.

Thanks Tim for the info and encouragement!!
