Good Luck Marathoners!!

Good luck to everyone heading up north to run the Chicago Marathon this weekend...and here's to having some much better weather this year!

Just remember to think good thoughts, run within yourself, rely on ALL those darn miles you have put in this summer, and represent for the Half Wits and the SRRC!

And that bridge/hill at Mile 26...well...it's just a little speed bump on the way to a great finisher's medal!!!

For those not traveling to Chicago, check out the marathon's Runner Tracking page for updates on your favorite runners!

Good luck to all!!!

UPDATE: Negative Nancy Info:-) from Pam:

Chicago Marathon Event Alert System Update

I'm not trying to be a negative Nancy here, but I just got an e-mail "warning" from the Chicago marathon. They are saying that the conditions are not favorable for a marathon and to slow down. It's an official "yellow" warning. I wish I knew how to attach it to this blog, darn it. Morning start, 60 degrees and up to 78 for the high. Bad part is 86% humidity! Well, we still have 4 days until the marathon so maybe we'll get an unexpected a cold front from Canada, lol.

Guys, just be careful and listen to your body.

Good luck everyone this weekend. I will be thinking of you. I will be going at it the following weekend in Indy.

Pam, I didn't get an e-mail alert from Chicago marathon, so I'm guessing the weather is going to be okay for me?? My sister in Chicago did e-mail me that an alert has been issued; I never listen to anyone in my family though. I had 75 dollars left in my 401k plan so I spent it on that hospitality tent. Maybe I'll just stay in the tent & eat & drink instead of running. See you in Chicago 3:55 pace group..

Eat a handful a pretzels on the 3 days before the marathon to keep from getting cramps. I've eaten almost a one pound bag since Sunday.

Tim, all the power to you and your 3:55 pace. You said you run well in the heat. I think with the 80 degree forecast (just looked today on ABC.com), I'm going to turn mine into a fun run. I'm running through every darn fire hydrant, fountain, garden hose, pond, puddle that I can, lol.

When you get into the tent, save a table full of beers and put them on ice for me, lol. You should get there about an hour before me :).

Oh, and I'll go to the store today and buy some pretzels. That will help me from getting a cramp while I jump into the fountain. Oh, crap, I think they are doing constuction on the fountain this year.

See ya in the tent Sat. Tim, Good luck! You can do it!

Ok, I'm trying the pretzal thing. It better work Tim Mu. I'll be right behind Pam through the puddles, holding onto to her tail! I'm hoping they are wrong and we have a beautiful day. We just need to remember to be safe and not do anything crazy just a shave a few minutes off our time, it's not worth it!

Just bought my pretzels! Tim, You need to learn to eat a 1 LB bag per night, not per week. Didn't I teach you anything? A pizza a night, not in one week, for gosh sake! You won't cramp up on my diet plan, lol You may gain 20 LBs but you won't cramp up, lol.

Mary, you won't be holding on to my tail feathers, you'll be in front of me. You're good in the heat. Last year, I was in every water station for five minutes taking a cold bath. I'm not kidding, ask Deb Marker, if you think I'm lying, lol. Deb kept running and I would go into the water stations, then I would catch up with her, back to the water bath. I'm having fun with you guys, you guys will do great!

Not to be negative Nancy again but my sister from Chicago said that the forecast is for 80's on Sunday. Not to worry though, we'll have fun.

Pam,

Maybe they'll let us start at 5:30am to compensate for the heat?

We made it through last year, it'll be a piece of cake this year. I bet there's water at every stop. Maybe even a bucket of ice for our feet at the end:)...or at least a beer. Hopefully it's not warm.

Hope to see you there. Good Luck !!!

Congrats to the both of you! Quick marathon note: The volunteers were awesome at the race. The gatorade and water were stacked up 3 deep. Never a wait. Sponges were handed out early. Some handed ice out and plenty of bananas. Kudos to all who endured the heat. They did it right this year. Good job for everyone running. The heat was rough but everyone ran safely with walks in between. Tim B. maybe you will bring better weather next yr. when you head up the training.

I would like to echo Kim's comments. The support and volunteers in Chicago were outstanding. Yes the heat and sun were tough. A lot of broken dreams, but it cannot be 80 degrees three years in a row. Here is looking forward to 2009. By the way a great Springfield area turnout, around 100 runners. Congrats to all.

I agree, it was very organized race. Can't control the weather, but they were prepared this year. The sponges were the best, and the volunteers were super. I thought all of the water spots were an overkilled until I started the race and by mile 11 I was getting pretty hot. Maybe next year will be better temp wise, but you must always be prepared. I was disappointed not reaching my goal, but after thinking about it, I'm lucky I finished with a PR and I feel pretty good today!

Yep, they did it well this year. Good job Mary on your PR!!! I found one as well, even though the heat made it smaller than I wanted.
Mike, I WISH last year was just in the 80's hahahaha.
Mary-good to see you guys at the rest stop on the way up!!
