If you have a need for speed...and a short-distance race...take part in the inagural Springfield Magnificent Mile this Saturday, May 24.
The race begins at 10:00 a.m. and has wave starts based on age groups.
Click here for more info or to register for the race.
Another upcoming race is the Passavant Powerade 5k & 10k on Saturday, May 31. This race is an SRRC Points Series race. Click here for more info.
And a great out-of-town (and SRRC Points Race) is the Steamboat Classic in Peoria on Saturday, June 14. With a world-class field of Olympians and Champions, this is a great race to run. They have a flat and fast 4-miler and a very tough 15k route. Visit www.SteamboatClassic.org for more info and to register!

the time to sit down and compose something. Which is kind of sad because

Ill be there for the Magnificent Mile. I know I wont break my last world record a couple of years ago but I will see where I am at and try to break it when the sizzling mile comes up in July at the SHG track.

I'm running the Mag. Mile and can't wait! There is still time! You have one day left to sign up on line.
Since my two boys can beat their Uncle Chuck in a foot race now, my new goal is to beat him too! Muwah~ha~ha~ha!!! The sibling rivalry is ON! ;)
Congratulations also to Travis and Gelila on the Green Bay Marathon!! That darn train! Why would they let that happen? I know if your dog was with you he would have ran the whole 26.2 with you as well!!! You two ROCK!!
they got stopped by a train? Are you kidding? I cannot imagine running a race and having to stop for a train! CRAZY! But congrats, guys!
Hi Em, after talking to ya at baseball, I tried to register online for Sat. but would not work. Is there still registration in person? I decided to run because I read it is at 10am. Not too early for me!!
Hi Kim! Really? I spoke with Kelly Urbas this AM and he said as well as it states online that you can register until tom, (Thursday) 5/22 until 11:59 PM. BUT you can also register in person at the Spfld Running Center on Friday at packet pick up from 3-7 PM. No race day registration though.
I'm glad you will be running. It will be a lot of fun!

Half marathon in Delavan had a train stop the course a couple years ago. It affected those 1:40 and later. Towns don't control trains, just crossings I guess.
The Quad Cities Marathon in 2005 was interupted by two trains around the 23 mile mark. The first train cut off the third place woman, who ran just a bit over 3:00 and probably would have gone under, and the second train was STOPPED when the race director parked his truck on the railroad tracks and wouldn't move.
I was one of the runners who made it through the crossing thanks to Mr. Moreno but I forgot about it, because I hit the wall hard, until my friend e-mailed me a few days later and asked me why I forgot to mention it in my race report.
I won't be running the Magnificent Mile this weekend because my wife is making me go to Florida for our 5th anniversary. I hope everyone has fun.
Thanks Em for checking. It didn't say you couldn't register it 'wouldn't' let me. It kept kicking the 3 code security out and wouldn't process. I probably should go and run a mile fast first before I jump into this. I am not good at short distance but sounded fun.
