Great job to all the Half Wits who ran the Lincoln Memorial yesterday.
From the weather, to the on-course support, to no problems with the results, we could not have asked for a better event.
Thanks to all the volunteers for all their support. Without the volunteers this race would never happen.
So let's hear what you thought. Any PRs yesterday? How was the course? Any good stories?
2012 Recap

I've seriously neglected this blog for no reason other than I haven't made
the time to sit down and compose something. Which is kind of sad because

Well, I wish I could have run it but I ended up with a bad respiratory infection and my lungs would not handle that race. My legs were ready to go! I was really bummed, but at least I was able to get out there and cheer for all the HalfWits. Everyone did great. I really wanted to just take off with you all, but I knew I would pay for it later if I did. Congrats to all that completed the race!!

I remember going through the 11 mile mark (in 1:23:00) and thinking that the leaders were finishing and that Bryan Glass was probably enjoying a beer because he'd more than likely been finished for ten minutes or more. Ironically enough, about two blocks outside of Lincoln Park I see Bryan running up the sidewalk yelling encouragement to all of us as we passed. In as much pain as I was in at that point I still managed to laugh.
The volunteers were great, the day was beautiful and I had a fun time and a huge PR. I can't wait for next year.
Thanks to Tim for all of his help with keeping the Half Wits on the road, and thanks to all of the volunteers who made the race such a big success. I felt terrible when I saw Mara on the sidelines as I know how hard she worked to prepare for this race. I was prepared to have my butt kicked by her. But you've got Lousville to look forward to, Mara. Looking forward to next year already.

The race was great, even better was all the support and commraderie. Tim is the man. What an awesome job!
Though, I was no where near the four score club, I managed to make and beat my personal goal (1:50). I certainly could not have done that with out a bunch of 1/2 Wits. I will definatley see you all out there! Thanks so much!!!

Great Job Tim. We could not have asked for more perfect conditions and organization on your part and all of the volunteers.

Everything was just perfect. The volunteers along the way were all friendly and the ones at the hydration stops were VERY helpful, yelling out whether they had water or Accelerade and giving you exactly what you wanted at that stop. Really, these volunteers were the tops. Was Jim Dahlquist the volunteer coordinator? If so, he did a FANTASTIC job lining up great people.
Tim Butler and Tim and Tammie McCaughey were great as usual and even Dewayne Blisset rose to the occasion. Who saw THAT coming?
You guys all ROCK!
You guys all did awesome! I had to go home and take a nap after cheering so hard. I stopped traffic, passed out water and cheered my butt off, what a workout, lol. Everyone looked so strong, I'm so proud of all of you. You couldn't have asked for better weather, it was an awesome day.
For all the people who threw clothes at me, I hope you found them after the race. Next year, please throw some drifit clothes, I'm a little low on those, lol.
Stay injury free!

What a great race! Everything was great from the weather to the volunteers, everything! As Barry said the water stop volunteers were very helpful yelling out what they had, either water or accelerade.. thanks! Great encouragement along the way too from the volunteers and everyone else just out to watch the race! Kudos to Tim and Tim for an awesome job organizing the race!
You guys rock!
Great job runners. Is anyone else a little sore today? What an awesome course. Gotta love those hills. It was great to see so many people out cheering on the great crowd of runners. Kudos to all who helped put on such a great event.
Check out my hubby in the picture of the runners on the City/State page of the SJR.
Awesome job Tim ! Proud to say I am a HalfWit! Hillary and I are sending sympathy cards to the hills cause we kicked their butts..lol Being on the course was even better when we saw other HalfWits and cheered each other on! Being part of such a great group means alot. To all the volunteers..THANKS..
The event was just wonderful. Thanks to everyone that helped. A big thank you to Tim, Dwayne, the McCaughey's, and that special volunteer coordinator,Jim (who I have not had an evening with in the past 3 weeks due to him meeting with all of the neighborhoods/volunteers). Jim already made a phone call last week regarding 2009.
Great job to all the runners and volunteers.
Louisville here we come...
Oh my aching hips and calves! They must hurt from those flat roads because those hills were sure easy! Especially that last one coming out of Lincoln Park!!! (YEAH RIGHT!!!)When did Mt. Everest get planted there??? Where was the rope to use to climb up it?????? LOL!!!
The weather was great, the whole LM crew that made this event possible was great, the course was great, and the turn out of runners at Sammy's was great! I loved yesterday!!!! Can we do it again soon???
Oh wait~~~ that would be Louisville in two weeks!!!:)
Great race! It was my first time doing this half and I really enjoyed it!
Holly -- are you that lady I met on the course and we talked about you doing Louisville and me doing Nashville?? Either way, have a great time in Louisville!!
Oh! I guess I should have put that I PR'd big time! Like almost 9 minutes from my last half.
Again, great race!
Anna,
Yes, it was me! Good luck with your marathon in Nashville and congrates on your PR. Here's my email (dahlquist2000@yahoo.com) if you ever want to run Saturday mornings. Too bad our long training runs are over!
I was more exhausted today than if I had actually ran the race, but it was all worth it to see and hear all the great experiences that all of the participants had.
Thanks to all of the volunteers and athletes for making the 2008 Lincoln Memorial a big success. It was very gratifying to have many of the runners stay and help with cleanup. I know they have to be sore today.
Thanks to all of you and remember to sign up early for 2009, both for the race and volunteer opportunities.
This was my first 13.1 mile. I really loved flying on those hills. I never knew there were that many hills I had to conquer. I am running Indianapolis next month and I know it would be piece of cake after this. Is anyone running there? I am thankful to Tim for arranging half wits plans that helped not only me but to many.
Thanks to half wits as I have been running the long runs with you all on Saturdays. the volunteers were great as they cheered all the way. I really liked the small boy who was shouting "two more hills left, only two more hills" because just before that I was thinking I am finished with the hills.
Let me know who is going to Indiapolis??
Thanks,
Ruby
Well, i had a thirteen minute PR on a somewhat hilly course and i have Tim and the Halfwits to thank for it!!! It was a great race that was well organized. I plan on lining up next year for the 45th Linoln Memorial. Thanks again for letting me be a halfwit.

Gotta tell ya.....I was in Washington Park and I cheered "Go Half Wits!" and the crowd around me went silent. I had to explain that that is the training group name and not a derogatory remark!!
Great job to all of you!
Very well-organized race. I really appreciated seeing every mile marker... something I didn't see in some other city's races. I'm also happy to say I shaved more than 11 minutes off my time, thanks to running with the HalfWits!!!
You guys were great. Forget about Gus Gordon - Tim is the weather guy. What a perfect day. You all looked great at mile 5 as I was cheering you on. Congrats on your accomplishment!

Sounds like Indy will be a first for you... It is a blast!! We're going back for the 2nd time this year (back to back). 35,000 people running is amazing. You'll love it!
ps... have someone find a good picture spot from a 3rd or 4th floor hotel window along washington street after all 35,000 are lined up.. My husband got awesome pics of the crowd.. all of washington st east to west packed with people for as far as you can see! very cool pics..
This was my first half marathon, and it went better than I had planned. I ended up beating my goal pace. As a bonus, I even placed in my age category! It was a great race, and I hope to do it again next year!
It was really cool to see that many people participating in such a great event right here in Springfield.
Kudos to all involved in putting on the race. Job well done!
