Get tuned up for the Half Wits with a run this Saturday, January 5. Weatherman says the temps will be better!
Big Toe Barry is in charge of this week's run, so here you go...
This is a special Saturday--it's Take Your Pick Saturday! Yeah, you can take your pick of distance to run--6, 10, or 11.3!
We'll start from Panera West at 7 am.
Here's a link to the route:www.usatf.org/routes/view.asp?rID=185403
If you want to run 6, just go to FitClub West and take the described route directly back to Panera. If you want to run 10, turn around at Chatham Road instead of crossing and going into Washington Park.
I'll set out Gatorade and water at FitClub West and water at Washington Park. And I plan to run the whole route SLOW if anyone wants to go with me! See you Saturday.

I've seriously neglected this blog for no reason other than I haven't made
the time to sit down and compose something. Which is kind of sad because

Barry is the the Big Toe and we are all just little piggly wigglies.
Barry...just like Sgt. Hulka in the movie Stripes: "The Big Toe"!
Sergeant Hulka (Warren Oates): Okay, Mr. Push-ups, let's hear your story.
John Winger (Bill Murray): Chicks dig me, because I rarely wear underwear and when I do it's usually something unusual. But now I know why I have always lost women to guys like you. I mean, it's not just the uniform. It's the stories that you tell. So much fun and imagination.
[points to the soldier next to him]
John Winger (Bill Murray): Lee Harvey, you are a madman. When you stole that cow, and your friend tried to make it with the cow. I want to party with you, cowboy. If the two of us together, forget it. I'm gonna go out on a limb here. I'm gonna volunteer my leadership to this platoon...
An army without leaders is like a foot without a big toe. And Sergeant Hulka is always gonna be here to be that big toe for us. I think that we owe a big round of applause to our newest, bestest buddy, and big toe... Sergeant Hulka.
Wow. Did you type that whole scene from memory?
Lighten up Francis.
heads up to Troy R. - a small group is meeting at Bike Tek @ 7am to run 10-12 miles at about 8 min pace. (Mary, could you let Troy know if he doesn't check this blog?)

Does that group include the owner?
Wow! I'm impressed Tim!
Sorry Barry...even though I could have recited MOST of that part of the script from memory, I must admit I did google it.
You can find just about anything on the internet.
Hey everyone-
My husband & I might move to a duplex near Lindberg and Chatham! I know some of you live in that area (it's also near Westchester) so I was wondering what ya'll thought of the area for running. Are there any un-safe spots or places I should be aware of? Let me know b/c we decide in the next few days & I would like to know how safe the area is.
Thanks,
Joy
For running I think that's a great area. You are near the Wabash and Interurban trails, as well as not too far from Washington Park. Not sure about the "safety" issue...but hey, you're fast enough to outrun them Joy!
Joy; We live in Lincolnshire. Just over from Westchester. Run in that area all the time. Never really found safety to be an issue. Of course, it is like anything else, you have to be aware of your surroundings, but I have never had a problem running in the area (even when I am alone.).
thanks guys! We signed the lease & are already packing! I am excited as this will be a great change and a final end to everything related to the long haul we went through when Andrew went back to school.
See ya out running!

Congrats Joy!! I use to run from the Raquet Club through Westchester onto the trail. It was fine. The only problem is there are no sidewalks along Chatham road but if you stay within the subdivision it hooks up to the trail. Great location for running. Nice and flat!! Hope to see ya soon on the roads.
PS. let us know when the house-warming party is! I make a mean chilli-cheese dip!
