Route for Sat. Feb. 2 (six miles + or -)...our first 2008 run!

UPDATE (Wed. 1/30)-- The forecast for Thursday into Friday is calling for 4-8 inches of snow. This will have an impact on the proposed route below, as the Wabash Trail is part of this route. We won't run the trail if it is snow packed, so keep checking the blog for an alternative route for Saturday (most likely to FitClub West and back).

UPDATE 2 (Wed. 1/30)--Click here for a link to an alternative route for Saturday's run. This is basically the route to FitClub West and back. If it snows like predicted, I want to make sure we run on streets that will be relatively cleared of snow.

Welcome to the Half Wits 2008! For those of you who are new to the Half Wits, the blog is the best place for information, so check back often.

Every week you will find a post to a link to the map of the Saturday route as well as posting the Tuesday workouts and Thursday runs.

Please study the map of the route for the Saturday runs We have enough veteran Half Wits who know their way around these streets, and we have plenty of people in the program, so you should always be running with someone, but it can really help if you know what's coming on the run.

A Note of Caution: routes and runs are always a "game-time decision"! I try to plan the runs taking the wind direction and conditions into consideration (I try not have you running four miles back straight into the wind...or going down the trail with a foot of snow on it!). If a planned route seems like a bad choice for that day, we'll have an alternative route in mind.

Also, we run in just about anything, so if it is really bad outside and you are wondering if we'll be running, most likely we will be running. I think we have only cancelled a run twice in the first three years of the Half Wits!

Please feel free to post your comments, thoughts, etc...

This is a new route, but it takes in familiar territory for most who have run with us in the past.

Please click here to go to the USATF Running Routes webpage which has Saturday's six mile route.

When should we meet?

Saturday (2/2...Groundhog Day!) is the first day for the 2008 Half Wits.

We will meet at the Panera at the intersection of W. White Oaks & Wabash. There is ample parking in the Panera/Shopko lot.

Times:

7:00 a.m. for overview of 2008 Half Wits

7:30 a.m.--leave for our 6 mile run.

If you have participated in the Half Wits in the past, and don't feel like you need the 7:00 a.m. overview, please make sure to be there by 7:30 a.m. We will do our best to leave on time.

Tim, Thanks for all your work organizing these runs. I look forward to joining the HalfWits 1/2 Marathon training on Saturday. I hope I can keep up with the group.

How do you know just when to schedule the snow runs every year? I can't wait for the Arctic Amble. Will it be 1 or 2 degrees this year? This is going to be great!!!

Ah yes, the special talent of planning it just right for the snow.

Just wait, the forecast for Tuesday is 51 degrees...so it will be nice and warm by then!

Hey, with the 11 inches, are you still going to run tomorrow?
