LM endorsed by Lincoln Bicentennial Commission!

Thanks to Commission Chair & SRRC member Marilyn Kushak and the rest of the members of the Illinois Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission, the Lincoln Memorial Half Marathon was named last week as an "endorsed" event by the Commission!

The bicentennial of Lincoln's birth will take place on February 12, 2009. Our State and the Nation will be celebrating this event with happenings around the country over the next few years. The Lincoln Memorial Half Marathon, with a route that takes people past some of the most significant Lincoln sites in the country, certainly is a natural tie-in with the Bicentennial.

Being approved as an endorsed event will allow us to use the Illinois Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial's logo and "stature" as we market the race around the country. Though we are all gearing towards this year's LM, the organizers of the race already have their eye on 2009 as a great year for the race!

Should we all anticipate a large increase in numbers for the LM this year?

Ah...I love anon comments!

Joy, yes, we certainly ancticipate an increase in numbers this year. Our estimates have us with probably at least 800 runners, with a great possibility that we could exceed 1,000.

Our plan has been to lay the ground work last year and this year with the hope that we will market it very hard for the bicentennial year in 2009.

Thanks!

Tim,
Since this will be a big event, I will volunteer for pre-race work. Let me know, when the time gets closer, what you will need.
