Half Wits Hiatus, upcoming races, and other stuff...

OK...so I have not been posting much recently.

Once the Fall for the Half Wits was over (and congrats to all the Lewis & Clark participants!), it was time to take a break for a while. Plus, I was in that typical funk that runners often get into after running in the big race for which they have been training. Lewis & Clark was a fun event, and I had a fairly decent run that day, but I have been lacking some motivation since then.

The Frost Toes are well under way and running themselves into shape for the Frostbite 10 miler, so everyone can get their group training fix through Barry and Dwayne's excellent leadership.

For the next couple months, the Half Wits will be on a little hiatus until we get geared up again after the New Year. I believe our Half Wits training program for the Lincoln Memorial will step off on Saturday, February 2. In the mean time, we'll still be posting items on this blog, but probably just not as frequently as when we are in the middle of our training.

We do have some outstanding races still left in the season, highlighted by the Canal Connection 10k this Sunday (Nov. 4) in Utica.

The Canal Connection is absolutely one of my favorite races (unfortunately we won't be there this year)! It is flat, fast, scenic, point-to-point course run mostly along the historic Illinois and Michigan Canal. They bus you from the school in Utica to the start in LaSalle and then you run back to Utica (great post-race pizza!). This is one of the MUST RUN races in Illinois. Plus, it does not start until 11:00 a.m. (and you get an extra hour of sleep this Saturday night), so you have plenty of time to get up to Utica.

Click here for more info on the Canal Connection.

Other upcoming races:

Sat. Nov. 17, 10:00 a.m.--Jingle Bell Run 5k (Springfield)

Sun., Dec. 2, 9:00 a.m.--Frostbite Festival 10 mile & 2 mile (Springfield)

Other items to keep in mind:

Registration is open for the 44th Lincoln Memorial Half Marathon (Saturday, April 5, 2008). We are seeing a large contingent of out of town runners already registering for the LM, so make your plans today and register for this great event.

The SRRC annual meeting (aka: The Monster Mash) will take place early next year. This event also is when the new SRRC Board of Directors takes office. If you are interested in learning more about being on the SRRC Board (we're always looking for good--and willing--volunteers) please contact VP Derek Dexheimer.

Don't forget, the Half Wits will also be training for the Louisville Kentucky Derby Half Marathon scheduled for Saturday, April 26, 2008 (a mere 177 days away). Visit their website to get registered today and plan to join your fellow Half Wits for fun and frivolity with the horses!

That's about it for now. See ya on the roads!
