Route for Sat. 7/28..something different

This Saturday we plan to join some folks who are running from Panera East (on Dirksen by Crown Plaza).

It will be a loop around Lake Springfield and through UIS. This will allow you to run on a recently opened trail adjacent to East Lake Drive from the Spalding Dam to Rochester Road! Please be very careful on both East Lake and West Lake drives. These are busy roads with little shoulder!!!

The group will leave at 6:00 a.m. (I know, it's early...but hey, there's plenty of sunshine by then!).

Here's a link to the map: http://www.usatf.org/routes/view.asp?rID=147699

And afterwards we can hang out for coffee and bagels at the "other" Panera. Feel free to join us!

If you plan to meet to join this group, please indicate so by posting a comment. Diana and Cheryl are kind enough to make sure there's enough water out on the course and we don't want them to be surprised if a large group ends up showing! Thanks.

I will be there on Sat. to run with the East Panera group. I love a change. Looking forward to new scenery.

What is the plan for the Chicago marathon group for Sat? I need to get in a bunch of miles.

Tim Mu:

A few of us that need to get more miles in are meeting at Fitclub South at 5:30, running to Panera East, running 10 with the group and then back to Fitclub South. Total is about 15.3 miles.

I may show up. Now sure if I will be in town Saturday morning. If so then I will be there. Thanks!

Tim & Stephen, Pam and I were planning on running from West Panera but I saw she mentioned 6am. I was thinking 6:30 take off, with us arriving around 6:20 or so. Is this too late for you guys? If so, I can bump to 6am. Let me know your thoughts on time and route. I think Pam has a route planned. I miss running with ya. I hope you guys can make it. Blog me. Ok, that sounded fowl!

I'm new to the group thing. Run about 12 minute miles. Will you all leave me in the dust or are there runners who are my speed???

Anne B said...

Melissa - There is a group running the IDOT Lost Bridge Trail at 6:00 a.m. who run that pace. They are meeting at the trailhead out at IDOT. Karen and Nancy are two runners, there may be more. You would be welcome to join them.

I think I will start with the FitClub South group and meet up with you guys. Its a different route for me.

Debi, Penny and I will be joining you at fitclub south, then tack on with the panera east group.

Tim Mu, you know I'd love it if you could join us! It'll be like old times~~~ oh~~~~ 3 months ago? :)

But please Melissa feel free to join us at one of the panera groups. Just make sure you tell us what your pace is... nobody is left behind. Especially now...

Anonymous said...

I know you already mentioned what your pace was; I meant when you arrive at one of the destinations so we can be reminded to stay with you.

Anonymous said...

What is this? A competition on who's group has more people? Now I know why people run alone.

Anonymous, I agree with you. I put the 18 mile route out because that is where our marathon training schedule has our miles. I personally am more comfortable running a long run on less traveled roads, sidewalks, trails, parks, etc... For me after 14 miles I zone out and don't want to worry about cars. I think the Panera East route is good for the 10 miles but for a long run that I was planning I didn't want to run the Lake Roads and like Tim said there is no to little shoulder to run on.

It is great that there are three choice's to run tomorrow and everyone knows there own comfort zone so pick what is best for you. Tim Mu lucky you, you have two girls fighting to run with you. My suggestion to you is start a forth running group for just the three of you.

Everyone enjoy yoyr runs tomorrow from where ever you start.

I dont think the routes posted are a popularity contest by no means at all. It is great to have different choices when they are available. Kudos for the people taking the initiative to post and create them. As Russ points out, choose the one that you are comfortable with. I tend to bounce around just to give me a change of scenery.

Here is to everyone enjoying your safe runs this weekend.

Chuck is right. No competition, just choices. Outside of the semi-formal HalfWits training, Tim and I have long shared what route we are planning to run so that anyone who wants someone to run with knows they're welcome. In the past we had a e-mail list. Now the blog affords anyone to see this information who's familiar with the blog.

We're not doing a marathon as many others are not, so we just share what we're doing in the event that others want to join in.

Believe me, many times it's just been the two of us. And we don't get our feelings hurt.

Don't want no drama. Had enough this week at my 24 year-old cousin's funeral.

I totally agree with Wendy and Chuck. Choices are great! We all have different goals and different route preferences. I thought the 10 mile lake route sounded interesting but I really need to do more miles but am not quite ready for 18 so I'm going to try to meet up with the Fit Club South group at 5:30 to do 15ish. I really appreciate everyone that takes the time to post and the fact that everyone is welcome to join any group they choose.

Melissa - as Anne mentioned we are running the Lost Bridge Trail from IDOT at 6:00 am tomorrow and planning to run 10 miles. Sounds like your pace would fit in great with us.

So many choices and so few Saturdays!

Karen you are so sweet. Melissa, you will so enjoy Karen and the gals. I love them dearly.

But WOW!!!! Never in my mind would I have thought of any kind of competition on the different routes!! And if I ever sounded as if I was fighting over Tim Mu (although he is a cutie patootie!) I think Kim could take me! So I'd back off! :) Kim and I both trained with Tim Mu~~ he is such an awesome runner and friend that helped us through many long runs and weather terrains along with Steve Jones and Carl. So Kim, I hope I did not sound that way to you at all!!!! If I did, I am so sorry! :)

I love Kim and Tim Mu~~ I can't help but say I feel a little offended!

Regardless, I love this group! We all learn from eachother and are all leaders! I appreciate so much what this group brings to all of us and can't imagine what my life would be without all of you!

Emily - sniff sniff - you beat me to the emotional post! (another competition, huh!).

Anyway - thanks to everyone who posts information on routes etc. Choices are great and it's nice to know that regardless of your goals - there's so many people out there on Saturday mornings that you can choose a group - or choose to run alone (which sometimes is just nice, too). I really like the route variations - keeps the runs from being boring and routine and like last week, I enjoyed running through the north end of town. You meet new people - see new sites, try new bagels.....Communication is the key to any successful group - and this group really has that down!

This blog was created to facilitate information for the HalfWits half marathoners -and has been a great source for many people to just get excited about what they love to do - regardless of route or distance or pace.

In just a few weeks - our family will be part of the Springfield running community instead of just that crazy lady who drives all the way from Lincoln just for the power of the group! (Might just have to plan a Saturday long run from my house - I think I can come up with bagels and coffee!)

Wherever you're on the road tomorrow-keep it strong! And if you're bored Sunday morning - volunteer or come out and cheer on the triathletes among us at Lake Springfield for the Springfield Tri Fest - Iron Abe is just going to have to count as my long run route for the weekend - anyone interested in tri-ing it, too?

Anyone running an 8:00-8:30 pace at E. Panera? I just don't want to run alone out there. I actually need to find someone to run with more often b/c ever since the lady was attacked in the park I have skipped a few runs. I don't feel comfortable running alone now. I wish I had a training buddy like so many of you do!! Is there anyone out there...

Wendy - if you are still counting heads, I'm changing my mind and running with another group. Have fun and see you downtown next Saturday.

Sorry, did I miss something?? I invited Tim and Stephen because they are doing Chicago with us and will be in our hosp. tent. I was hoping Tim could run up top with Pam and Stephen and I could trail behind. My problem is I feel I hold Pam back when it is just the 2 of us. It worked out so much better with the larger group so everyone could fall into their pace. Nothing more was intended. Just trying to pull together some runners for a long ass run on Sat. morn. Yuck. :) We will all hook up next week.

Well, I am quite insulted when someone runs with a different group behind my back. I really can't deal with the, the, sheer dishonesty of it all.

If you want to run off with those sluts, just go ahead.

LOL! I hate to agree with Emily and Crazy Mary, but it's great to have so many choices for a long run. Even when y'all are running farther and faster than I'm prepared to go!

See ya on the roads!

Boy, this is an exciting night. I'm glad I stayed home to read the blog :). I'm just kidding. But Barry, you were more entertaining than my rented movie, lol.

Joy, I have missed some runs also. I usually run early Thursday mornings but I'm afraid to run because it's not in a great area. Thought I could run at night and then it was too darn hot. I wish I could run an 8:30 pace for an 18 miler but I think I would be road kill if I tried that. I don't know if Jennifer Wagner is running with us but she is probably around your speed.

Actually great run, great route, y'll are GREAT! Could not have done it with out yas. A HUGE THANK YOU to Cheryl Biesieda for putting out the water~~~ and you didn't even run with us! :) Finding the water was fun! It was like doing a scavenger hunt! :)

BTW, Did anyone EVER see Joy? I couldn't find her... :)

Thanks again for providing the water/gatorade stops. That run for me was kinda of miserable. For some reason, my body wasnt responding to the run, but I do appreciate all that were there. It was fun to see a big group running.

BTW, Joy you are a machine.
