What's on your Ipod?

So, as Pam and Emily were listening to my Ipod Shuffle (with the same ear buds, one for each of them, mind you) as we were sitting around at Panera after Saturday's run, it got me thinking...what music do you like to listen to when you run?

I was never one to listen to music when I ran...that is until Wendy bought me an Ipod Shuffle for Christmas. It is awesome because it is so small and just clips on your shirt or shorts.

Myself, I tend towards harder rock (Metallica, Foo Fighters, Offspring, Aerosmith were all on the playlist for Saturday's run) but I do like to mix it up with a little Justin Timberlake, Kayne, or something along those lines (thanks to my wife).

Hey Tim, how come you didn't mention you also had Kelly Clarkson's, "Just Walk Away" and Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl" on your ipod? We loved those songs!

Whoops! Sorry did I accidently mention the feminine side of you? LOL! Just kidding! :)

Wow, I don't have anything as hardcore as "Hollaback Girl", but do have songs by Cowboy Junkies, Jim Fidler, Greg Brown, Sufjan Stevens, Neil Young, Blue October, Dave Matthews, John Mellencamp, Beck, Blues Traveler and the Black Eyed Peas.

It's funny - but I leave it home a lot now (and I used to use it on every little run). I think one of the reasons I fell a couple weeks ago is 'cause I was trying to sing and dance and run .....

okay - I'm going through the list:

Bay City Rollers
Billy Joel
Bob Seger (I'm a motown girl)
Aretha
Damien Marley
Mozart- for the long slow run
Sinatra's "Ain't that a Kick in The Head" for every reason imaginable!
Queen
Rod Stewart (okay - I admit it - I'm a junkie)
Stray Cats
Pat Benatar - all of it's good!
Ramones
Green Day
Jackson 5 (ABC 123 - great getting up that hill music!)
Various musical soundtracks (Rent, Sister Act, goofy - but it works for me!)

It's funny - when I know I need to relax, I turn on the Sinatra, Buble mix-I was doing that a lot this summer when it was hot. When it's one of those I got a lot to get out of my system kinda runs - it's AC/DC and Pat Benatar all the way!

And yes - hollaback girl ROCKs on the road!

Hey Emily - surely you've got BlackEyed Peas....My Humps on yours! Or wait - is that you Pam?

I leave my Ipod at home now too..
The girls I run with make the miles fly by - great company does wonders!! But when I'm out alone here's some of what's on it:

Nicleback
Smashmouth
Greenday
Train
Shinedown
Areosmith
Daughtry (I'm a huge Chris D. fan!)
Eve to Adam (they are touring with Daughtry and they are awesome! Bought the CD at the concert .. Some of what they do is pretty hard core, but it's great when you're out on the road! www.evetoadam.com if you curious)

And oh yeah, some silly stuff like
You make my dreams come true (H&O)
Madonna - a variety
Footloose (not so silly!)
Walk Like an Egyptian (the Bangels)
I'll admit it, I'm an 80's junkie!

Great idea for a post, Tim! I am always wanting to get ideas for more running mixes.

A window into my "Long Run 07" mix:

1. ABBA, "Take a chance on me" (a little pep talk for myself as I start out)

2. The Who, "Baba O'Riley" (my pumping fists usually rip out my ear buds at this point)

3. Beach Boys, "Wouldn't It Be Nice" (adds about 30 degrees to the temperature)

4. Tom Waits, "Step Right Up" (keeps going and going--Anonymous, let me know which ones you like on a run)

5. Outkast, "Hey Ya"

6. ACDC "You Shook Me (All Night Long)" I think of my "American thighs," ha.

And, there's a fanTAStic podcast called "Podrunner." This guy, DJ SteveBoy, has so many beats available for download--at many different speeds. I think the 165 beats per minute are great, and you can experiment with ones that will help you keep your pace. Each is an hour, and it's free. My husband and I both swear that PodRunner has played a big role in our fitness.

Also--a weird thing--I listen to the podcast of "This American Life" on some long runs. There's no beat to speak of, but the stories are completely enthralling.

Okay, I must admit I'm a little more hard core with my running music.
Rob Zombie
Foo Fighters
Disturbed
Pink
Limp Bizkit
Bush
Buckcherry
Nelly
Godsmack
Papa Roach
Korn
I know it is not what I listen to in the car, but it gets me through the long runs.

Holly - that's pretty funny! I guess when you share your music, you just never know! Glad to hear there's another Barry fan out there (did I say that outloud?). And the Electric Slide? That's cool - how do you keep from "cha cha" -ing through the park? I like your list a lot.
