Great LM photos

Cecil Withrow took some (over 600!) excellent photos of the Lincoln Memorial Half Marathon.

You can view them all at the SRRC's Kodak Gallery.

Pictures are also available for purchase through that site.

Those are really great pictures. And they reminded me of something that happened during the race.

Along about mile 7, I noticed a couple of girls (looked like high school age to me) who were stopped and talking just off the street. One was obviously struggling and wanted her friend to go on at a faster pace. The friend refused.

After I finished, I was walking back out on the course to watch for buddies who hadn't finished when I saw the girl who had been struggling. She was still in some pain, but she was running (we all know THAT feeling), and I heard her friend cheering behind me.\

I turned and saw that her friend had finished (she was wearing her medal) so I suggested that she run with her buddy to the finish line. She looked uncertain but I told her, "Go ahead and run her in; it's not a problem." So she started running alongside her friend.

Looking through the photos online, I saw a great shot of these two girls approaching the finish. One wearing a medal, the other not. But both were wearing HUGE smiles.

I almost choked up looking at that photo. It took me right back to 7th street and all the emotions of that morning.

Helping your friends finish strong and enjoying the shared effort is what this whole thing is about. Well, besides weight control and cardiovascular health.
