Well...in like a lion..isn't that how the saying goes? Nothing like a little morning thunderstorm to get our March started. Hopefully this month will bring us some better weather, but it does not look like it over the next few days.
And just think, but the end of this month you will have run the new Lincoln Memorial!
2012 Recap

I've seriously neglected this blog for no reason other than I haven't made
the time to sit down and compose something. Which is kind of sad because

Right--March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb. Does that make us a bunch of lambs at the Lincoln Memorial? Lambs in spandex? Lambs for the slaughter? Silence of the lambs? Runners on the lam(b)?
Oof. Sorry.
baaa
If we can have the same weather for the new Lincoln Memorial that we had for the last old Lincoln Memorial, I'll be happy.
And I really cannot BELIEVE you wrote "Lambs in spandex," Steph. That's a disturbing image that will, unfortunately, stick in my head for a while.
Well, I dont know about you guys, but looks like its not a good day to run out there. The 2 elements I hate when running is...ice and winds up to 50 + mph. Good luck whoever braves the element tonight...say hi to Dorthy for me when you get to Oz.
BTW, Steph it disturbs me thinking of Barry in spandex...ha ha just kidding, my friend.
I agree, that weather last year was almost perfect. I only ran the 5 mile, but I do remember the temp was close to 50 and little if any wind, at least for the 5 mile. I didn't get out in the open past the covered bridge.
Barry and Chuck: Maybe a better image is lambs in Polartec fleece. But isn't that kind of like lamb wrapped in faux-lamb? Stop the madness!
You guys are funny - you should be out there running! I'm ready to shed the spandex tights, polartec, headbands, and jackets! (Okay a lamb in polartec faux-lamb would be cute - but a lion in spandex? Quick - new IMAGE!)
There were three of us running at lunch today - we walked over the the gym: sun was shining, a slight skip in our steps 'cause we'd get to wear SHORTS! It was one of those days when you just knew - yeah, this will be a great run. It's been tough lately!
Oh, but welcome to Illinois. By the time I changed and stepped outside to wait for the guys (why does it take men longer to get dressed than us girls?), the big rain drops started. A nervous glance at the clouds rolling in and well - what can you do??? I knew I wouldn't melt - but I did have to show up back at the office looking a little put together!
We ran the first mile in pouring rain, the second mile in rain and wind and I think hail! By the time we got to the cemetery and into mile three, the rain stopped and the sun came out. Relief? Yeah, well, the drifit didn't dry fast enough! It was almost (now, I'm saying ALMOST!) humid and hot! My feet were soaked, my hair plastered to my head, and I picked a great day to try out green mascara (not waterproof, alas).
Cars honked at us - their drivers in disbelief as these three crazy Half Wits splished and splashed their way down North Grand! But we smiled and said - "WE'RE RUNNERS" - it was a very very good day. (I still hate those freakin' hills!)
4.75 miles later - I'm sitting in my cubicle (hopelessly trying to repair my makeup and hair) wondering - what would I do without my running buddies - the ones who make me lace up my shoes and get out there on my lunch? The ones who make it fun to run through mud puddles, hail, and snow - all in the same day? The ones who patiently wait for me to get up those hills? The ones who do whatever they can to distract me so I won't give up? And is that smell really coming from those wet shoes?????
So cool - but tomorrow I think there's a buffet out there with my name on it!
Kick it up a notch!
Mary
That settles it, Chuck. I'm wearin' the spandex on Saturday!!!
OMG Anne! You so crack me up!!! Lambs... they are all so cute, sweet, and cuddly... perfect description of our very own, Barry!!!! ;)

I too ventured out at noon for my 20 mi. All psyched up with the sun out and shorts on also. Got to the trail and saw a huge cloud moving in. Asked some workers if storm was coming in and much to my disapointment it was coming fast. Ran back to Panera just to dodge the hail! See Pam, there was hail.
Looks like Sat. morn will be the long run. Anyone wanting to add onto the group run? If not - hold a seat for me.
Cio
great job, Kim - sounds like you were a whole lot smarter than our group!
