Route for Saturday 3/24

We are in our taper week before the LM Half Marathon next Saturday!

For our run this week, we'll leave from Panera at 7:30 a.m. and head south for a loop through Panther Creek and back to Panera. I'll have a hydration stop in the parking lot of the Panther Creek clubhouse.

PLEASE WATCH THE TRAFFIC ON COCKRELL LANE AND ON ROUTE 4!!!

NEVER QUIT!
I had the craziest run yesterday and just wanted to encourage you guys to never give up, no matter what gets in your way. I planned on doing some track work yesterday (repeat 800’s) but decided I needed to run some hills since the St. Louis marathon is full of them. So, I thought I would run repeat 800’s in the park using the markers from the women’s distance festival. I knew this would be a tough workout and just had to gut it out! Well, everything that could keep me from finishing this workout happened:
-I had a side cramp on the second 800
-There was a torrential downpour on the third one
-I didn’t finish the fifth one because the side cramp came back with a vengeance
-During the sixth one I wanted to quit thinking that six hilly 800’s is equivalent to eight flat ones
-At the end of the workout I completely ran out of energy
In spite of all of this, I did not quit from the cramp; I did not take shelter from the rain; I did all eight of the repeats; and I even did an extra hill at the end to make up for the partial fifth 800.
Each of you has this strength and mental toughness. You have been building it up through all of the snowy, icy, and freezing runs this winter. You have felt it with those difficult negative split runs. When you are tempted to give up or just give half the effort, remember all the hard work that brought you this far. Remember that if you work your hardest during the most difficult of workouts or races that you will be a better runner than you were the day before. And no matter what obstacles get in your way you can overcome them-you are a runner! Good luck and God’s speed for the LM.

Joy, you are one tough runner with strong self discipline that will have no prob kicking ass at the St. Louis Marathon! Great job girl and what an encouraging blog!!! Thx!!! :)

Strength and mental toughness; such a strong emotion...

One can't thank your company enough that pushes you to get to that finish line, but it is your own self that actually gets you to cross it. :)

(PS: Thanks so much to my hubby Brent, Carl, Tim Mu and Steve J for the extra push today on our last long run!!!) :):):)

Curious - I know this is a taper, but what is the mileage tomorrow?

Joy, great post! Maybe I better get off the sofa and run! How was your last long run?

Emily, hope your long run went well. How are you feeling? Remember, it's taper time so the hard workouts are behind you and you are ready to go.

Kim, how is the hip? Hopefully, you are resting it, right?

I wish all you guys the best in St. Louis and I will be thinking of you. Hey, is there a way I can track you guys in St. Louis? The Chicago marathon had a tracking system that you can see where the runners are at certain points. Some people had it on their cell phones. I'll go to Panera and eat a bagel and have my coffee and track you guys. Hey, we can have a tracking get together and cheer you guys on.

Pam,
The last long run was good. It feels great to have the longest one done! If you & your tracking party need a bib # to track us during the race, mine is 15. It should be a great race! Thanks for cheering us on.

Great job Fri Em!![Carl & Tim too] You now have all those miles in the bank and are ready to rock in MO. What ended up being our total Fri? You said 18-but I could only remember @14, did I forget a loop? Anyway-great job, and don't forget the body glide.

Wow Joy, good job on the low bib number!! I have to chuckle. Last year at L.M. I signed up the morn. of, and as you know they reserve the low numbers for the fastest runners. Well, someone didn't show up so I had a single digit number. I got alot of jokes from fellow runners. I won't be running this L.M. ufortunately. I have hip pain and will need to lay off until St. Louis. Say a prayer that it will be better for St. Louis! I will be working L.M. and I look forward to cheering everyone on! It was a great course to run a couple of weeks ago. Enjoy it but don't get hurt!

Kim, regardless of you resting, you will still do well at St. Louis. You are one of the strongest runners I know! Every run we have done together, you always did so AWESOME! You were always way ahead of me!!! I so ate your dust!!!! :) I love you Kim... it has been great doing this training together. My heart aches for you... but just temporarily... :) as I know when St. Louis does arrive, you will be sprinting right next to those low bib number people~~~ right next to Joy!!!! :):):)

Thanks Steve and Pam. Luv yous too! :)

Hey Em,

It is much easier mental this time around. I am enjoying the break. Went to the gym and just strectched and did the foam roller for about an hour. Felt good. Like I said, it is not the ideal situation to lay off 3 weeks before a marathon but the good part is that the muscles will be nice and rested. As many are aware (Jenni G) it is no fun to run 26.2 in pain! I am not going for any personal record so I can take it easy this time. Chicago will be a different story. All is good!
