Saturday...what to wear & good luck!

One of our commenters asked, now that they have the cold and snowy clothing figured out, what should they wear in the wind and rain.

Well Half Wits...what's your thoughts on that question?

Also, I will not be there on Saturday, so good luck tomorrow. The forecast calls for tough conditions, but hopefully the wind will be a little better on your way back to Panera than it will be out to FCS...and that's always a good thing. Just keep your head down into the wind, watch the traffic on Stanford and 4th Street, have fun with the group, and think how you can regale your friends and co-workers with another great story of running in the elements!

Stephen has kindly offered to put the water jug out at the eastern trailhead of the Wabash Trail. Thanks to Stephen! I also checked out the route to make sure it was clear of snow...and it is!

Finally, welcome aboard to Steph, a new author for posts on the Half Wits blog. You can read her first post below. If you would the ability to author posts (not just comment on a post) just let me know and we can set you up!

Tim, we'll miss you tomorrow!

Barry, will you slow down your pace enough to hold the umbrella while I run?

As far as dressing for the wind and rain combination, if you have gortex that is great. If not, a rain resistant jacket is good. I wear sunglass to keep the wind out of my eyes, but if it is TOO rainy it isn't that great. If it is windy and rainy, I do a "CHUCK" I wear a ballcap with a headband over it too keep the rain out of my eyes and the cap from blowing away. I saw Chuck Bernardes do this!!! I tell you what, I look JUST like him when I wear it.
Also, Keep a change of clothes in your car...including socks and a change of shoes, even if it is for the drive home.

Mike,

You bring the umbrella and I'll hold it . . . somewhere near you . . .

LOL!

BTW, my yellow jacket is a material that blocks wind and rain without sealing in heat to become a sauna. And I also wear a cap in the rain but I have yet to "do a Chuck"!

I have a Target brand jacket I picked up that's supposed to be water repellent. It unfortunately does turn into a sauna, but then I don't have to wear as many layers! So I guess it works out OK.

Have fun in this tomorrow. I'll most likely be running in the same kind of weather in Chicago Sunday morning.
