For me, the first mile was the worst, as the wind was tough to push against. Things improved once we had the houses to block the wind. When we got back to Panera, I pulled off my ninja headgear and was surprised to find chunks of ice in my hair.
Hey great job to all the Half Wits who got out there and faced all that wind and cold!!! My hat goes off to you. Of course, where I was, no hat was needed...LOL! I decided to do my run on the treadmill as I am a chicken s**t when it comes to cold weather. But I admire your courage for going out there and completing this run. I do miss everyone at Panera and can't wait to see you all. I should be there in about two weeks. Alas, next week I won't be able to join you again. I will be running on the beach at South Padre Island. Sorry folks, I know it's a tough job and someone had to do it.....so I volunteered!! But I hope everyone has a good running year and it's free of injuries. Looking forward to see everyone real soon!! :-)
Okay - first of all - I'm with Barry. No matter how good I felt afterwards - once we headed into that wind, I was seriously doubting the wisdom of running in sub zero wind chills, in the wind, as my first long run in a month. My fingers were frozen even with good running gloves. My lips were chapped from licking them, and my hair, like Anne's, had ice in all it's knots! My eyebrows were even cold and I couldn't tell if I was breathing against a sweaty or a snotty face mask - gross! I could whine, but when I looked at everyone doing it, I thought - geez, I can't complain! It was neat to see people running together - encouraging them every step of the way because it was one of those runs that it was more important to put miles on your shoes and test the mental side of your training, than to worry about pace. The rewards of that kind of accomplishment will pay off when better weather comes. You'll look back and think - well, if I can run in THAT kind of weather, well then I have no excuses! But I'm like Helen - I'll take running on the beach anytime.
And to the guy who told me when I entered the parking lot at Fit Club that Tim had left hot chocolate for us, well, that was the cruelest joke of all. When I said, "Oh, really - that's cool." He said, "Yeah, it would be-if it were true!"
one for the books. Hope we don't have to do that again soon. It's like the hills last Tuesday, it made the regular run through the park easier. On days like that we should probably be carrying cell phones in case anyone has to stop and get help! Good job Half Wits! Barb
Mary R., I apologize and admit to making the "hot chocolate" remark. Perhaps I had a brain freeze due to the weather and didn't know what I was saying.
Barry, do I get extra credit for driving 60 miles from Pittsfield to run under those conditions?
Barry, I absolutely wouldn't miss it. Just remember that your upside potential for improving your running times is great. I can only hope to keep you in sight ahead of me!!!!!!!!
Mike - I forgive you - a little halfwitted humor made me smile! I only drove 40 miles to run with you guys - and I wouldn't have missed it for anything! Now had you lied and said it was Margaritas - well, then, that would have been a whole 'nuther story!
Hey Barry - maybe I was hallucinating or perhaps I was just weighed down by that tennis ball in my pocket! Now in addition to recuperating and improving my own times, I gotta start chasing you down! I can't let an old guy beat me!!!! (just kidding - maybe)
Barry, I would like nothing more than to see an entourage of Half-Wits at the Red Dome. Rest assured that once our 5K date is firm I will let everyone know!!!
I am impressed by all of you brave (or is it CRAZY) people who ran on Saturday! You've either got alot of balls, nuts, don't have any young children, or all of the above.

The whole thing sucked. I froze, I got tired, I cried.

Excellent job, everyone!!!!!!!!

Mike,
I GAVE you extra credit that morning. Sort of. I said you were absolutely nuts to have driven all that way to run in subzero wind chill.
By the way, you may have been hallucinating about the hot chocolate. After all, you thought I was going fast . . .
Comin back on Saturday?

LOL! MaryThon, by the time you're able to race, you won't be worrying about chasing ME down! You'll be waiting for me by the finish line as usual.
Hey Mike Bradshaw, you gonna post the date for the Pittsfield 5k so we can all plan to run it? I can just see the Half Wits taking over the Red Dome!
