Half Wits preview

Hey folks! So, you have made the Half Wits your New Year's resolution...that is awesome!

Here's some info to get you going...the Half Wits training program is scheduled to begin on Saturday, January 27 at 7:30 a.m.!

Our first run will be six miles and we'll meet at our usual Saturay location, the west-side Panera (W. White Oaks & Wabash). We will rely on the simple plan we have used the past couple years: two weeks of increasing distance on the Saturday long runs, then a "cut-back" week...using that formula througout the training. We will culminate with running the actual LM course two weeks out from race day.

For our weekday runs, we will meet at the Washington Park shelter and do speed or hill work on Tuesday nights and training run on Thursday nights.

We will keep the Half Wits going through the first five months of the year, with a goal of running the Madison (WI) Half Marathon on Memorial Day weekend.

Anyone who is planning to run the Lincoln Memorial, St. Louis (I am!), Indy, or any other spring half marathon could certainly benefit from training with the Half Wits and we would welcome you to participate. Any training program can be tailored to fit with the Half Wits and train for any of the spring half marathons.

We'll have much more info as we get closer to the 27th and as we go throughout the training, so keep checking back to the blog.

If you would like to be included on the Half Wits e-mail list, just leave your e-mail address in the comments or give me a call at 217-544-5799.

Chuck, I'm out here keeping it strong and keeping a low (for me) profile . . .

Looking forward to the 27th and all the following Saturdays, to see what kind of conditions the Half Wits will endure this year! Also looking forward to the new course.

Keep It Strong, Chuck!

Hi Everyone,

I would love to be included on the Half Wit List. I am a fellow SRRC member, but due to a move I won't be able to train with you all. Booo hooo. I sure wish I could take the group with me. Oh well good luck to everyone.
Also if any women are planning to go to Indy and are looking to share a room please let me know. Another runner and I are looking for other women to share our room with.

Thanks and hang in there everyone.

Hey all - good news - Doc has released me to start running - just two weeks post op. No cancer - just a tumor "gone wild". He says he doesn't have very many patients that recover as quick. I told him he must not have very many HalfWits for patients!
Anyway - I've got to EASE back into running so I don't hurt myself, but looks like I'll be seeing you all on the road a lot sooner. I'm sure I won't be up to six miles by the end of the month, but I'm ready to lace up my shoes and get out there a mile at a time.

Thanks for all your phone calls and emails - it's meant a lot to me and helped keep me motivated.

See y'all soon!

So MaryThon, does that mean you're up for 10 on Saturday?

KEEP IT STRONG, BABY!!!!

Pamela said...

Hey Guys, Anyone running Saturday? I would like to run about 10, if anyone is interested. Panera 7:30.

Chazter said...

Mary,
Great to hear the news. Awesome. See you soon on the road.

Pamela,
I will be up for it. I havn't ran a 10 miler in 2 months or so, but I think I can handle it. Promise me you wont leave me behind...if you do, leave Panera bagel crumbs...I like the hazelnut Chocolate Chip.

Jeremy said...

I doubt I'll be doing ten and probably won't be as fast as you two, but I'll try and be there.

Barry House said...

IF anyone is interested in 10 at a 10-minute pace (or possibly slower), please speak up and I'll be there too. Otherwise, I'll just stay on my couch with the BIG BOX of twinkies . . .

Jeremy said...

That's probably what I'm looking at. I don't know really. I've been going more off heart rate lately and haven't been paying attention to pace much.

(Kim N ) I'll be there unless raining. Pace - how about conversation pace. Isn't it a Sat. Social run?? Ok, I am guilty of plugging the earphones in but I still listen well. Hope to see all there!

Pamela said...

You puppy Kim! We have been through ice, snow, wind, rain, cold and heat before. You're afraid of rain? You could only get wet and you're going to take a shower when you get home anyway. Get your butt at Panera, 7:30 rain or shine baby!

Pamela said...

Oh, and Chuck, we won't leave you behind because you're going to be our bunny. Hazelnut Chocolate chip sounds awesome, I don't think there would be any crumbs left over on that flavor!

I think we have plenty of runners at different paces that are showing up so everyone will have someone to run with. Russ said he will be there (That's if he doesn't stay out to late the night before.) and he will be running slower because he just got back into running again. Guess that marathon did him in :).

(Kim )

Alright Pam, don't want to be known as a puppy - so yeah I'll be there. Good to have you back Russ. We'll be in the middle of the pack some where. See ya 7:30am.

Tim,
I would like to be added to your list. I am planning to go forspringfield half for the first time; moreover I have never run more than six miles. I do not believe I can come everytime when you guys run but would appreciate the schedule, so I can keep increasing my distance.

Tim,
I don't really condsider myself a runner but I do run to try to keep in shape. I have been wanting to take it a little more seriously and set some goals for myself. However 6 and 8 mile runs may be a little much for me right now. But I would love to get involved with a group to run with. My e-mail is sfile@insightbb.com, Thanks, Sara
