Race volunteers needed this Saturday!!

We are in need of volunteers for this Saturday's Race to Cure Lymphoma in Chatham. I know all you marathon folks have nothing better to do while you are cooling your heels in anticipation of your big race, so why don't you help us out this Saturday?

The race starts at 8:00 a.m at Glenwood High School. If you could be there by 7:30 a.m., we'll put you to work.

Feel free to post a response if you can volunteer, or give me a call at 544-5799.

Thanks!!

Tim

Maybe you need to offer free adult beverages. That seems to get the halfwits out.

Anyway - Tim you've got me down, right? I've never helped a race,so I'll need a little training, I'm sure.

Don't worry Mary...if anything goes wrong with the race, we'll just blame you!

Thanks for helping. We'll put you to work on the finish line. If you can be at Glenwood by 7:30 am, that would be great.

Thanks!

O.K., this is what I do for my pre-race nutrition, eat two pieces of cake with coffee in the morning. Stop at the vending machine for a quick snickers before lunch. Have Banana Leaf for Lunch. About 3:00 when your sugar levels drop, eat another snickers or go out on the ledge and eat a payday, hey, nuts are good for you. Go home and run 6 miles, too tired to cook dinner so go out to Burger King and get a whopper, fries, and a chocolate shake. Around 8:00 when your sugar levels drop again, get the icecream out, you will probably need some salt so you might as well get the bag of chips out too. There you have it, a perfect pre-race meal.

Pam - you're doing it all wrong. You forgot fruits and veggies. Just add a Bloody Mary, a strawberry daquiri, and an extra slice of lime in your margarita - and you've got it perfect!

It was a chocolate binge day at work - the guys in my area were getting a little worried when I kept taking fistfuls of mini Snickers and Dove Bars, slammin' the head phones on my head and sliding so far down into my chair that even the paper airplanes flyin' over head failed to get me to laugh! I seriously need to log some miles tomorrow or sneak a corona in my lunch box....

Pre-race nutrition:
According to what I've read - increase your carbohydrates these next two weeks, including complex and simple sugar carbs. But you'll need to cut back fats, go easy on the high fiber stuff, and even proteins so that your calorie total does not cause you to put on weight. A pound or two is not going to be a problem and feeling a little sluggish is normal due to decreased exercise, too. Do not try anything new. This is not the time to try the Beef Satay Flat Noodles medium plus at Banana Leaf if you haven't had it before (my favorite). Stick to foods you know, don't add any new vitamins, herbal remedies or any other medications unless you absolutely have to. IF your prone to stomach distress - you should know your triggers and avoid them the next couple of weeks. Try to stick to your normal eating routine, and Pam, you'll be happy to know that grazing during the day is okay (you're the dietician....).

A note on fasting: someone asked me if I had read anything about the benefits of fasting to "detox" the body. According to "The Competitive Runner's Handbook", fasting has the exact opposite effect of carb-loading and actually causes a 45% reduction in endurance and a tougher time holding their pace.

Water water water water water water water water water water - the most important during the next two weeks. And alcohol? Sorry to say - but what I've read says no alcohol for three days before the race. Hmmmmm - let's take bets on who fails that first. Alcohol and caffeine as well are diuretics and unless you're drinking plenty of water, can cause dehydration.

Of course - you all know this stuff, don't you??? And I'm not giving up my wine and chocolate until I absolutely have to. I'd rather find other ways to burn off the calories, like, uh....vacuuming!

Kim - I'll bring the Richard Simmon's tapes. Where are you staying?

Oh, and everyone who is registered for the hospitality tent should have gotten an email about it today. Don't forget to wear that blue wristband!

Hey Kim,
Salukis Rule!!! As they say, DO IT LIKE A BIG DAWG!

As for my sister, never mind about her stating my age. She is envious of me because most people think she is older.
She tries to use the "Kids" angle, but I say, "Nice try".

I cant help it if Im the older, more youthful looking brother of the family.

Okay KIM! Break us up!!!!

Regardless what Chuck says, he knows he loves me dearly... afterall, he is my most favorite "oldest" bro anyways!!!
