Okay - Now What?

Now that you're recovered (okay, well almost recovered), it's time to lace those shoes up and get right back out the door. Although you should give your body 26.2 (!) days of rest from any hard workout such as racing, speed work, or hills workout, you should be able to get out there and do some light and easy running and cross training - consider it tapering in reverse.

For those interested, the Indy Half Marathon is already 57% full - if you're interested in this May 2007 race which includes a lap around the Indy 500 track, check out their website at www.500festival.com. Many of us had a blast there last year and the crowds are almost as exciting as Chicago!

Informal group runs continue informally as runners prepare for the rest of the SRRC points seaons (Utica Canal Connection 10K, Jingle Bell Run 5K, and Frostbite 10 miler/2 miler). Check here for posts from individuals planning informal group runs.

Congratulations everyone on a job well done - you've certainly earned this time off to rest as most of us have been in training since last January. But - lace up those shoes and get back on the road. Rediscover exactly why you love to run in the first place. Put away the Garmins and sport watches for a while. Just run - taking in everything around you. Enjoy the weather while you can. Run through leaves at dusk - just run. Whether you have another marathon in mind, or just running for the heck of it, you have a lot to be proud of. Beating obstacles, time commitments, injuries, and self-doubts - you overcame and can now proudly call yourself a MARATHONER!

Informal run - Abe's course. Meet at the fairgrounds (grandstand) at 7am on Saturday morning, November 4th.

Ok, Mary. I've got two things to say, one is a question. How do you know its 57% full? I've tried to find on their site where that information is and haven't been able to find it. The other is to poke fun at your post. I got a chuckle as I read your third paragraph.

"Informal group runs continue informally..."

I would hope so!

Great job with this by the way. It's been a real pleasure reading all your posts filled with information and encouragement.

Excuse me, but the informal group run on the Abe's Amble course Saturday morning will be a formal affair. White tie required.

Okay - JEREMY - you should see the mistakes I fix after three glasses of wine, not just two! And - let me know your schedule - maybe we can informally plan some informal shorter runs as you informally continue as a HalfWit Gone Solo! Maybe your last couple of taper weeks? I'm sure I could come up with a few runners and we can all help you get to Memphis! (ps - thanks for the compliment - It's been great researching and learning about this whole process.) And the only way I knew Indy was 57% full was from the emails they sent me and I found it on the website (up to 59% full): http://www.500festival.com/marathon/ (at the home page for www.500festival.com, click the header "mini-marathon" - it takes you to the countdown page)

BARRY - my white tie is in the laundry - but I'm sure I can come up with something....Maybe I can check with Emily?

KIM - we are doing the Abe's couse (6.2 miles more or less....). Another alternative is the Police Academy 5K Turkey Run (check the srrc website: http://www.srrc.net/ for details). Karen Price is doing this race at Washington Park on Saturday - just a fun run, but might be a way to get out there and test yourself! I'm glad you could get back out there. I'm not sure I'm ready to race just yet, not even sure 6.2 miles is going to be easy, either - but I gotta keep running. It makes EVERYONE is my house a lot happier!

And of course, I'll drive over to Panera when I finish the Abe's course - probably 8:30 ish or so.....It's always good to meet up with everyone!

Anyone out there have other group runs planned for the week? Post them here....

Well, I'm sure I went to that page, and it was probably staring me in the face the whole time.

I'll be there for the Abes course, just don't expect me at Panera cause I'll continue on to do either 19 or 20.

I guess you could just run to Panera, huh! Be careful out there. I may not be rockin' and rolling on the hills - still recovering, you know, but I'm ready to try. Been out three times since the marathon, so I think I'm ready to try to do something a "little" challenging...

PLANNING AHEAD -

NOVEMBER 4TH - 7:00 A.M. ABE'S AMBLE ROUTE - LEAVING FROM FAIRGROUNDS (recovering marathoners - go easy on the hills....)

NOVEMBER 11TH 7:30 A.M. 6-8 MILE LONG RUN - LEAVING FROM PANERA WEST.....

Best of luck to Steve O'Conner - a HalfWit Gone Wild who pulled out of running Chicago at the last minute in order to participate this weekend in the Panama City full Ironman (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride, and THEN a marathon!) Here's the website (http://www.ironmanflorida.com/)

okay - I'm fired! I COULD NOT GET OUT OF BED this morning - I'm so sorry!

I'll blame it on.....Daylight Savings Time....too many margaritas...a late night....my dog turned off my alarm....my tights were in the wash....oh, forget it, they aren't true. I just rolled over and went back to sleep.

I'm on vacation all next week, so assuming my plane gets in Friday like it's supposed to, I'll be at Panera on Saturday the 11th for the 6-8 mile run. Pam, can you pick the route!?

And if anyone wants a copy of the pictures used in the Yahoo Online Photo Album, I was going to make CDs, but I ended up making a powerpoint slide show and a folder of the pictures that I can just send to you via email. That way you can pick and choose what you want. Just send me an email and I'll forward it to you.

For the Sat. run, Karen V. suggested that we run part of the frostbite route. If you're up for a 6/8 mile run we can turn around early and then meet at Panera after. The people that want to run 10, go for it. I do know that it starts at the Fitclub so should we meet there? I don't know the course so hopefully people will show up that know it.

Abe's run was fun, glad I made it. Running those hills is so darn hard but a good workout.

Kim, how's the leg? If you are up for 6 next Sat. you can turn around early. Don't want to push you, just didn't know what you are aiming for by next Sat.

Mary or should I say MIA. We missed you but understand how you felt, I just didn't want Kim to stand at the 1 mile marker waiting for me to pick her up, while I was sleeping. Glad Kim and I decided to meet at the l mile because I would have stayed in bed too. Thanks Kim!

Hey, any word on how Steve O. did at the Ironman?

Oh - count me out for next Saturday morning. My plane doesn't get in until 10pm and it's going to be close to 11:30 or later before we get back to Lincoln - IF I'm feeling REALLY adventurous, I'll be there, but after 3 nights in Vegas? I'm sure I'll be recuperating anyway! But I'm planning to run at least once, and have a hiking trip planned.

I haven't heard from Steve yet, but I looked online and I see he finished - this is an extremely grueling race. I'll get an update from him and post tomorrow. There were more than 2100 finishers (more than 80 individuals posted DNF's) of this 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride, and a marathon. Anyone who could complete this must be a freakin' maniac! The top time for this was 8:22!!!!!

And Kim, count me out for the party - but I'll send pics. I'm headed back to Chicago that weekend to help my daughter celebrate her 16th birthday - big plans!!!!

We heard you the first time Mary!

Glad to hear Steve finished. Wow, I can't believe he finished! Knowing how hard a marathon is, I can't imagine doing the swim and the bike before it. He should be so excited about it. Good for him.

Pamela,
I was working out late Sunday night wearing my HWGW running shirt on the eliptical trainer at FitClub West. A lady came up to me and ask if I knew who you were. She said, she saw my shirt and inquired about ya. Of course, I forgot to ask her name and kinda forgot what she look liked but thought I'd mention it. I have good memory dont I?

:p

For anyone who wants to try out the Frostbite Hills but doesn't want to go all 10 miles, Nancy S, Linda J, Karen P and myself are leaving FitClub West at 8:00, running just to Pec Road and turning around. This will be about 7 miles. 11:30 pace (+ /- depending on weather).

Hey all - I'll start a new post for this Saturday's run. Looks like we have a group leaving Fit Club at 7:30 to run 10 miles and a group leaving at 8:00 to run 7 miles of the Frostbite Route. I'll post the route.

Thanks Chuck. Yes, that is my friend Jan. You need to encourage her to run with the Abe's Army next year. I think she would do it but she thinks she has to run the whole way. I told her she can do the run/walk 6.2 but she isn't convinced. She walks all the time so I know she can make it. There were a lot of people in the run walk group last year. She can get her foot in the door with that group and then would stick with it once she meets all the great people in the SRRC. She is quiet at first and then when she gets to know you, she is a lot of fun and would fit right in our crazy group. I really think she secretly wants a HWGW t-shirt so maybe we can tell her we have an extra, lol.

I'll be at the fitClub at 7:30 for the 6/8/10 mile run :). Can't wait to see everyone!

Pam,
If I recognize her again...you bet that I will recruit her. WhoWha!!!
