HWGW Sleeveless Shirt Orders Due

Just send me an email (deadline extended to next Saturday so I can collect the rest of the order forms) if you would like to order one of the HalfWits Gone Wild sleeveless, dri-release running shirts. You can get the check to me later, I just need the sizes right now. They cost $17.50 and will be a great way to show Springfield what a crazy running group we've become. Even if you're not doing Chicago, we're all a part of the team.

Great run out there today - it's a hot one! After struggling through hills today, I think we all need a hill workout again, so this Thursday will be a hill workout at Washington Park at 5:30 p.m.

Next Saturday is a twelve-mile run and I propose we start at 6:30 a.m. to try to beat the heat.

Week Seven July 30-August 5 Workout
During the week for those following Higdon’s NOVICE schedule: two 3-mile runs, one 6-mile run, and one 12 mile run – we’re up to 24 miles this week.

Join us Thursday at Washington Park (August 3rd) at 5:30 p.m. for the hills workout (NOT TO TGIF'S LIKE PREVIOUSLY EMAILED TO YOU) !

Join us Saturday at Panera West (August 5th) at 6:30 a.m. for the HalfWits 12-miler to Washington Park and back. (NOTE NEW TIME!)

See you on the road!

Mary R.

Remember - we're 1/3 of the way toward the Chicago Marathon. If you're starting to doubt your ability to complete the Marathon, be sure to remind yourself of why you're doing it in the first place. Stick to your plan. Don't skimp on workouts, but don't overdo it. Visualize crossing that finish line. And, occasionally, reward yourself. You're a marathoner, after all! Look how far you've come!

Reward yourself when you succeed
Rewards can be a powerful motivator. When you do succeed, make sure to do something nice for yourself. Many runners who have reached their goal treat themselves to some tangible reward: a new running shirt, a sports watch, a meal at a nice restaurant, or a special trip. The ideas are limited only by your imagination. Bottom line: be good to yourself.

TELL US, HALFWITS: HOW DO YOU REWARD YOURSELVES?

Hi Mary, I'm back from FL. I can't believe it but Springfield is hotter than FL. Man we didn't get 98 degrees there. Had a good time.

I just wanted to let you know that I would like a T-shirt in a small.

Thanks, got to unpack and go to bed.

6:30 sounds like a great start time! I don't need very many excuses to award myself, I'm always looking for new running clothes and an excuse to eat.

It has been fairly easy up to now. I know as we go beyond our comfort zone, since most of us have done at least 13 - 14 miles for a long run, it's going to get tough. We are going to need our group to keep us going. We just need to hang in there with this crazy weather!! This will make us stronger!!

For our run this Saturday, I will have water and gatorade along the route.

4:30 a.m. is when I've been running, although it's even been hot and oppressive at that hour. It's kind of neat at that time though. Usually the only signs of life are owls and newspaper delivery persons.

Regarding Saturday's run, Mary R. is bringing water/gatorade at the park and we'll be stopping at FitClub. I won't be bringing any water to place between Fit Club and Panera. If the group feels like we need it between those two stops, please let me know and I'll make sure water is there.

I will volunteer to place water/gatorade on the 12th. Maybe we should get volunteers or if everyone wears a fuel belt, we'll be ok. The runs will be getting longer, so this is probably a good time to get use to wearing one.

Hi Guys - Mary wanted me to post a note, that she won't be able to make it tomorrow. It's not about the gas prices but it's about her daughter being sick. Her daughter is fine now but Mary hasn't had a lot of sleep and she has been in Springfield since Thursday night.

We are still meeting at Panara on Saturday morning at 6:30 a.m. for the 12 mile run. Some people are doing 14 and some are doing 16. So if you still want to run, there will be people there.

Hope all is well Mary, we will miss you, :).

Sorry Mary, good to hear that your daughter is ok.

Glad to hear your daughter is O.K.

Saturday's run went great! We had a lot of people show up and it was a great day. It seemed like everyone was happy with their run. Where was Russ thought?, I don't know. We gave him a hard time for not showing up (called him at 6:30 on the cell) He was suppose to be the co-captain but didn't show up. I know Russ will have a good excuss because he knows how important the 14 mile was so can build to 16 next week, like his plan says.
