Okay guys - this really bites. Gas in Lincoln just hit an all time high. While the signs still say $2.99 at most stations, they're sold out of the cheap stuff. Gas is up to $3.99 per gallon. I hate to do this, but I've got to reign in my trips out of town. I'm already commuting back and forth five days a week to work, and the extra trip on Saturdays to run is something I need to reconsider. Hopefully I'll plan on joining you every other week. I'll just have to find a group just as motivating and encouraging as all of you to run with on the weekends, 'cause I KNOW I can't do this alone.
I'm doing the Tri on Sunday, so a long run tomorrow is not a good thing for me anyway - I plan on doing six miles only and getting back on track next week. I'll still 'facilitate' information on training, shirts, events, etc., I'm just not going to be able to be there each Saturday. I'll for sure be there for the IDOT 10 mile run (because there's food and a pool involved.....).
I've always wanted my motorcycle license, so maybe that's my next challenge! Why not? Happy running guys and stay hydrated - it's going to be a hot one!
2012 Recap

I've seriously neglected this blog for no reason other than I haven't made
the time to sit down and compose something. Which is kind of sad because

OH MY GOSH!! Mary, we will miss you like crazy. :-[ I was planning on taking some pictures today, I'll get them to you. We'll be thinking of you. Don't give up yet, though, maybe the $ will drop again. Hope I see you soon...

I'm on my way out the door for a six miler - just not the same guys without you guys! For sure I'll see you guys on Thursday and next Saturday.....
Take some good pics - shoot them to me via email and I'll post 'em. But, no butts!
Sure wasn't the same without you guys - but I got 8 great miles in, the weather was cool until the last two miles so I can't complain. Those of you using fuel belts - I froze my bottles about half way - 2 filled with gatorade endurance and 2 with water. I filled them the rest of the way this morning and when I needed them, they were just perfect. Plus I added water to the frozen gatorade to dilute it some. Pam - I've got a great story to tell you about having to stop in the woods - rivals your train story!!
I did have a really cool moment though. I'm on mile five in the park and I thought there was a dog standing in the road ahead, drinking out of a puddle. Dogs scare the crap out of me, so I started to slow down. It wasn't a dog, it was three young deer. I stopped and stared at them - I was able to get within about 20 feet of them. They were beautiful and I could see right into their eyes. It seemed as if we were both wondering, "why are you here in my world?" So cool - pretty breathtaking moment. I picked up my pace and so did they. Sometimes we forget to take in the sights around us until they jump out right in front of us.
I found I had to draw on my own strength today as I didn't have all of you to motivate me. So I put on my headphones and dug deep down to find the guts I needed to get out there alone on the course. I was pretty amazing just to have that time to myself. What I'm learning is that I need both kinds of running experiences - those with my friends (those are the easy ones) and those on my own. Those are the harder runs - because I have to do it all myself. I can't rely on anyone else helping me, encouraging me, or even caring if I just take a shortcut, or being there with a smile and a bagel at the end. I was very tempted to roll over and go back to sleep this morning!
You know, I always say that the power of the group is amazing, but today I learned that the power of my own drive and determination is pretty amazing too.
BUT! I still cannot do this alone - I'll be there next SAturday for sure. Don't forget to tell me or Robin if you're coming to the pool party in the morning after our 10 mile IDOT run!
I hope the run went well for all of you - HalfWits Gone Wild rock!
We've been duped - it was all a rumor and two gas stations took advantage of it and posted $3.99. I just went and filled up and gas is still $2.99 (which still bites) but the guy in the station says it was all a rumor. Ticked me off!
But I know two stations in Lincoln I will never use to fill up again!!
But it was nice to be home anyway - see you guys!
Wow Mary, it still bites about gas. I was sitting at Panera and noticed that it was $3.08 at the station across the street (don't know what type, regular, etc.) I had heard it was $3.50 in Bloomington and that the high prices are making their way here.
Still, sounds like you had a great run. I did the frozen water/gatorade trick too and it was nice to have a cold drink. For the first five miles, anyway! It warmed up pretty quick.
Mary S had a spectacular frozen latte (was that right?) at Panera afterwards...it looked soooooo good and cold.
see you next time!
I'm impressed with your site, very nice graphics!
